While there is always room for those iconic biscuits, a new sweet ending is coming to everyone’s favorite Louisiana Kitchen. Popeyes Banana Cream Cake joins the quick service restaurant menu. It might not be grandma’s recipe, but this single serving dessert is one that brings smiles all around the table. Could it be Popeye’s best dessert yet?

According to a recent company announcement, the Popeyes Banana Cream Cake is “a moist vanilla cake topped with whipped banana cream and wafer crumbs.” Looking at the description, it appears to be a riff on a banana cream pie and a layered cake. In some ways, it is a modern take on a classic Southern dessert.

It is the first time that Popeyes has offered a single serve dessert. In some ways, the addition of this dessert shows that quick service restaurants need to offer a complete meal. Many people crave that sweet ending.

It will be interesting to see if some people head to Popeyes just to get a taste of the new dessert. Just like sometimes people buy extra biscuits as a side for that backyard barbecue, the same might happen with the Popeyes Banana Cream Cake.

In addition to the new dessert, Popeyes is bringing back its Chocolate Beignets. When this dessert launched, guests could not get enough of the Hershey’s chocolate filled treat. Even though a little mess is worth the bite, a little care with that powdered sugar is a good thing.

What other new menu items are joining the Popeyes Banana Cream Cake?

After a six-year hiatus, Hushpuppy Shrimp is back on the menu. Coated in a “crispy Hushpuppy cornmeal crust,” the butterfly shrimp are a delight. When dipped in that creole cocktail sauce, it hits all the flavor notes. The 8-piece shrimp dish is served with a signature side and a biscuit.

Also, the classic Surf and Turf returns. For the first time, guests can order the iconic Chicken Sandwich with four pieces of Hushpuppy Shrimp. The dual meal comes with creole cocktail dipping sauce, too. Although it might be nice to have some other sauces on the side, too. Maybe Popeyes could find a way to get that remoulade sauce added as an option.

The Hushpuppy Shrimp has a starting price of $6 and the Surf and Turf meal has a starting price of $7 at participating restaurants.
