Sonic’s new menu items combine sweet, savory and a touch of nostalgia

While the Happy Hour drink specials might make some people park the car for a refreshing sip, those Slushes are not the only reason to head to America’s Drive-In. The two Sonic new menu items combine fun and flavor with a nod to nostalgia. It might not be the dish that grandma made, but you might wish that she had.

For some Sonic fans, the sides and desserts are just as important as the over-the-top burger. Just like the idea of eating in your car is served with a little fun, it is the extras with a meal that make it memorable. Who didn’t crave an extra serving of those pickle fries. In some ways, that item could have been a meal itself.

With the Sonic new menu items, there is both a savory and a sweet option. The new food choices are Fried Cookie Dough Bites and Broccoli Cheddar Tots. Whether enjoyed separately or together in the same meal, they are an excuse to keep the oven off and let Sonic take care of dinner.

As a returning menu item, the Broccoli Cheddar Tots capture that fall comfort food vibe. A touch crunchy and very cheesy, the hearty bite could be a meal itself.

Mackenzie Gibson, Vice President of Culinary & Menu Innovation at SONIC shared, “We’re also excited to bring back our Broccoli Cheddar Tots, which were so popular when we introduced them last fall that they quickly sold out across our drive-ins. They’re a fun, reduced-guilt take on our classic tots that offer a balance of crunch, indulgence and nostalgic flavor – especially when dipped in ranch!”

While some people will dip in ranch, another option is layering the Tots onto a burger. Although it might turn the burger into a gigantic bite, it is one worth trying.

Since ending a meal on a sweet note is always delightful, the Fried Cookie Dough Bites almost sound like a treat from a state fair. That classic chocolate chip cookie served in a different way is quite enjoyable. Who needs a chocolate chip cookie from the oven when this dessert is waiting.

Gibson commented, “Everyone loves a freshly-baked cookie that’s warm and gooey on the inside and crispy on the outside. We crafted our Fried Cookie Dough Bites to deliver everything you want in a warm chocolate chip cookie but with our unique SONIC twist.”

And, since a food twist is always tasty, why not pair the Fried Cookie Dough Bites with a shake. It might not be a fried cookie sandwich, but it is a flavor upgrade to cookies and cream.
