Taco Bell fans make their voice heard and by bringing back another favorite menu item
Taco Bell fans are a passionate group. When a new menu item hits the menu, they are the first to place an order. When a favorite food disappears from the board, they plead for its comeback. Now, Taco Bell is putting the power to the people. Which fan favorite food will return to menus after a hiatus?
A loyal customer base is key for any restaurant’s success. From satisfying that craving to the routine of stopping on the way home, those favorite orders are a type of comfort food. That first bite satisfies as much as the last one. When the typical order disappears, customers feel a void.
While the Mexican Pizza might get all the attention, it wasn’t the only Taco Bell menu item that disappeared. For fans of the Double Decker Taco and the Enchirito, the Taco Bell menu has been lacking.
For the first time ever, Taco Bell is putting the power in app users’ hands. It is time to vote and have those voices here.
As Sean Tresvant, Taco Bell’s Chief Brand Officer said, “On the heels of the love and passion we saw for Mexican Pizza, we wanted to continue elevating the voices of our most loyal fans by giving them exclusive access to a uniquely digital experience that fosters brand love. Nobody gets Taco Bell more than our community so we’re thrilled to empower them with this in-app voting experience that allows them to have a direct impact on our menu.”
Will Taco Bell fans bring back the Double Decker Taco or the Enchrito to the menu?
Taking a slight step back in time, the two possible returning menu items have not been on the menu for several years. But, each one is rich in Taco Bell history.
The Enchrito first appeared in 1970 but then departed in 2013. Considered a Mexican fusion dish, it is a combination of a burrito and an enchilada. The flour tortilla is filled with “seasoned beef, beans and diced onions.” Then, it is covered with “classic red sauce” and melted shredded cheese.
For anyone who wants a hearty bite, the Enchrito should get their vote. The combination of flavors satisfies. While it might be nice to have some chips on the side, it is a tasty choice. Plus, the Enchrito is part of Taco Bell history. Sometimes a piece of history needs its time to shine.
The other option, the Double Decker Taco, is a celebration of textures. A limited time offering that became a permanent menu item in 2006, it has been three years since people have had this crunchy delight.
The Double Decker Taco starts with a soft flour tortilla that has been layered with beans. Then, a crunchy taco shell is filled with “seasoned beef, crispy lettuce and cheddar cheese.” It is like having two dishes in one bite.
Basically, Taco Bell fans are voting between saucy and crunchy. This decision might say something about food preferences. Although only one item will return to the Taco Bell menu, it could impact future menu innovations. In a way, the fan vote might be a form of crowdsourcing.
For now, Taco Bell Rewards menus can vote daily through October 6 for either the Double Decker Taco or the Enchrito. The winner will be announced on October 7. The menu item will return at a later date to be announced.
What do you think of this Taco Bell fan activation? What other discontinued menu items would you like to see face a showdown?
