As the stand mixer whirls and the oven heats up, the anticipation for the most delicious holiday cookies grows. Although the home baker might dream of baking glory, some local bakeries are whipping up tasty and innovative treats that could earn a prime spot on Santa’s plate. Tastemade and Kellogg’s collaborated on the inaugural Corn Flakes Holiday Cookie Sleigh competition. With five bakeries in the running for the title, only one will earn holiday cookie glory.

Many people have a secret ingredient that makes their particular cookie recipe just taste better. While these cherished recipes might be passed down as a form of family archive, sometimes those special treats need to be shared with others. Whether it is that pinch of sea salt to highlight the chocolate to an unlikely spice to bring the comforting flavors forward, a great cookie needs to be celebrated.

Looking at some people’s cookie recipes, pantry staples can be an important part of that recipe. Similar to how grandma resourcefully used one ingredient in many ways, that cookie might transform a pantry staple, like cereal. While many people have used Corn Flakes beyond the cereal bowl, some popular bakeries are making them the star of their holiday cookies.

As part of the inaugural Corn Flakes Holiday Cookie Sleigh competition, five bakeries have submitted their delicious cookies in the attempt to win $10,000 donated to the charity of their choosing. Although Corn Flakes are featured in each cookie, the offerings are quite diverse.

Check out the delicious holiday cookies in the Corn Flakes Cookie Sleigh competition from Tastemade and Kellogg’s.

  • Fat and Flour (Los Angeles, CA), Chewy Caramel Corn Cookie
  • The Sweet Boutique (Houston, TX), Brown Butter Gingerbread Cookie
  • Big Fat Cookie (Chicago, IL), Marshmallow Topper
  • Crust Vegan Bakery (Philadelphia, PA), Sweet Potato Casserole Cookie
  • Sugar Shane’s (Atlanta, GA), Winter Morning Flakes

While Ross Matthews will announce the winner in late December, Tastemade has shared the various holiday cookie recipes on its website. Although Corn Flakes are used in each dessert, the flavors are quite different.

More importantly, these cookies showcase how one ingredient can be used in so many different ways. From adding texture to elevating flavors, it is time for Corn Flakes to be seen in a sweet application beyond the cereal bowl.

Looking at the recipes, the Marshmallow Topper showcases how the Corn Flakes can be used in many ways. From the cereal inside the cookie to the sprinkles, it is a celebration of cereal goodness. In some ways, this idea might even lead to a new discussion on summer s’mores.

Another element that deserves mention is the streusel in the Sweet Potato Casserole Cookie. Why not borrow this idea for that coffee cake topping or even fruit crisp. It might be time to switch the oats for some Corn Flakes.

As everyone awaits the winner’s announcement, it is time to get baking this holiday season. A little extra flavor and creativity might be waiting in that cereal bowl and the most delicious holiday cookies could be waiting on the plate.
