With only a few episodes into the new season, the pressure is on for these cooks to impress Gordon Ramsay, Richard Blais, and Nyesha Arrington. Even though each cook has skills, one element impacts the final dish, the clock. On Next Level Chef Season 2 episode 4, Vinny learns that the clock waits for no chef.

According to FOX, Next Level Chef Season 2 episode 4, “Rice Guys Finish Last,” features the following:

"The chefs are challenged to make a dish from the most popular cuisine across the United States. They will have 45-minutes to create a next level Chinese-inspired dish. Which team will take the top kitchen and who will be eliminated in the all-new “Rice Guys Finish Last” episode of Next Level Chef airing Thursday, March 2 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX."

Thinking of Chinese cuisine, the breadth of this type of food is great. Although some people might think of that takeout container, it is far more nuanced than another serving of orange chicken.

Still, one element often associated with Chinese dishes is rice. In an exclusive clip provided to FoodSided from FOX, cooking rice in limited time could spell one cook’s big downfall.

The first item to notice about this clip is that the cooks need to choose their ingredients wisely. It does not appear that Vinny is in the basement which means that he didn’t have to just grab any ingredient. Choosing that particular type of rice and not knowing how to cook it was poor planning on his part. This FOX culinary competition is not a time to experiment with a new ingredient.

Even though it is not the sandwich episode from last week, the poor choice is worthy of a Gordon “idiot sandwich” barb. Although not necessarily clear from watching, it seems that the platform always holds an ingredient or two that are just hard to cook or something unfamiliar. The cooks who choose those unfamiliar ingredients could have sealed their fate. The time to rely on a teammate’s winning dish as a save will not always be around.

Even though Next Level Chef is not as fiery as Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay has been delivering some fiery commentary this season. The reality is that Vinny needs a wake-up call. If he has never cooked this type of rice, he should be grateful that Chef Ramsay is trying to give him a solution. The house might not be on fire, but Vinny’s time on Next Level Chef could be going up in flames.
