While some people can smother any food with ranch, a new concept is coming to the freezer aisle. After offering flavors like Kraft Mac and Cheese and mustard, Van Leeuwen has just revealed Hidden Valley Ranch ice cream. Before people scoff at this savory scoop, it is definitely worth raising the spoon.

Savory ice cream seems to be a big food trend. Just recently, concepts like Chick’n and Waffles have joined the iconic 31 flavors. It isn’t that food brands are looking to shock and awe consumers. The offerings seem to showcase that food lines are blurred. Ice cream can be savory and sweet.

With the new Hidden Valley Ranch ice cream, the flavor is described as highlighting the savory flavors that people know and love. Buttermilk, herbs and a hint of sweetness come through in each spoonful. It might not be the typical dessert, but the possibilities for this ice cream flavor are many.

As Rachel Garrison, Associate Director at Hidden Valley Ranch said, “We know that Hidden Valley Ranch goes with just about everything – pizza, carrots, French fries – but ice cream is a first for us. We are so excited to partner with Van Leeuwen, the expert in limited-edition, premium flavors, to bring together this creamy mix of savory and sweet. Insider tip? Top your scoops with crushed pretzels or potato chips for a perfect salty crunch.”

Although ranch ice cream might not be common, the idea of pairing ranch with food is a common occurrence. For example, instead of that spicy chicken dosed in ranch, why can’t a spicy chicken and waffles be topped with a spoonful of Hidden Valley Ranch ice cream?

If a spoonful of ice cream can get some kids to eat more vegetables, could that be considered a win at the dinner table? Who doesn’t love French fries and ice cream. Why not use this ice cream flavor instead of another?

Although some people might not be screaming for joy with the announcement of this flavor, they might change their opinion after taking that first bite. Sometimes it is better to push aside preconceived notions and actually try a food first.

The Hidden Valley Ranch ice cream from Van Leeuwen will be available at Walmart from March 20 through May 28, while supplies last. It is part of the brand’s spring line, which includes Hidden Valley Ranch, Sweet Maple Cornbread, Blood Orange Chocolate Chip, Carrot Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, Honey Graham Cracker and Limoncello Cake.
