Many people have mistakenly stepped away from their Uber and instantly remembered that package, item, or maybe their dog was left inside the driving away car. Although many items can be rectified before the driver has rounded the block, the reality is that some of the forgotten items have people scratching their head. The 2023 Uber Lost and Found Index has been released and it seems that the list of forgotten items has become a little more unusual.

Over the years, the annual Uber Lost and Found Index has become a conversation point. Certain food, beverage, and even a unicorn tail have been part of the list. Although it appears that people have become more forgetful over time, the reality is that this annual list is meant to bring a little levity to the situation.

According to the company, the 2023 Uber Lost and Found Index breaks down the items into top food, beverage, and most commonly forgotten items. While people can appreciate the occasional forgotten soda or even takeaway from dinner, the reality is that the unusual items have people wondering what were they thinking.

For example, this year’s list includes items like a toy poodle, fire swords, a pin with Jesus holding slice of pizza, and even an ankle monitor. For the Uber driver who had to deal with the ankle monitor, that person needs a really good tip to handle the paperwork associated with that left behind item.

Granted, there are items on this list that make sense. Sure, who hasn’t left behind a hat or even that water bottle. But, the person who forgot the 10 pounds of sugar or slushie machine must be really distracted or in deep thought when they arrive at their destination. Some items might be easily replaced but the power of attorney document issued by Turkish consulate might need a lot of explaining to get that item replaced.

Although the 2023 Uber Lost and Found Index is a great conversation starter, the reality is that the list is a reminder to check for all those belongings before leaving that vehicle. There might not be the old-school pre-recorded message from the NYC taxi, but maybe there could be a reminder to pop-up/push reminder on everyone’s phone. It might not be a huge deal that the bottle of champagne was left on the seat but leaving those poor turtles to make that long walk home is a little more concerning.
