After the triumphant World All Stars season, Top Chef Season 21 is taking a decidedly different turn. In a recent Bravo television announcement, the celebrated food television competition is ready to head “up nort’” and be welcomed by Cheeseheads. Can the chefs nail that Lambeau Leap?

According to Bravo, Top Chef Season 21 will take place in Wisconsin, specifically Milwaukee and Madison. The announcement stated, “With a backdrop of picturesque landscapes, acres of farmland, miles of shoreline and vibrant urban communities, the cheftestants will explore the fresh flavors and local bounty of this rising culinary destination.”

As Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said, “We are honored to be able to welcome ‘Top Chef’ to Wisconsin for its upcoming season. We’re proud to be known here for our rich food culture, talented chefs and exceptional local ingredients. I know our diverse culinary traditions will help inspire the participants, captivate viewers and showcase all of the great things Wisconsin has to offer.”

While two cities might be the focus of the 21st Season, Wisconsin natives can hope that many of the classic, well-known offerings will make some of the challenges. Whether or not there is a “hotdish” quickfire, a supper club challenge, a stop at the Mars Cheese Castle, or a pairing with Leinenkugel remains to be seen. Still, Wisconsin is more than just beer, brats, and cheese.

From the cranberry farms and Door County cherries to Wisconsin cheese, the northern state has a plethora of culinary delights. While sports, especially Packers’ football, have their ardent fans, the food landscape has evolved over the years. Special events like the Kohler Food and Wine Festival draws acclaimed chefs to the highly rated resort.

As the announcement alludes, it appears that the upcoming season could be a nod to more farm to table offerings. Inspiring viewers to better appreciate seasonality and local ingredients is a take away that anyone can apply in their own kitchen. The stunning Wisconsin landscape can be the backdrop to get home cooks to be more thoughtful with their own culinary choices.

Currently, Bravo did not announce a potential air date for the upcoming season. It is unclear when filming will begin. Maybe the chefs will start popping up in and around Milwaukee and Madison before the first snowfall. Otherwise, everyone better pack a good parka for that chilly weather.
