While frozen treats help to beat the summer heat, sometimes that scoop of ice cream is not necessarily the right fit. For those people who prefer to avoid dairy or gluten, the freezer might not quite as full. With the Sanpellegrino Sparkling Granita recipe, everyone can enjoy a taste of la dolce vita.

Originating in Italy, a granita is a simple frozen dessert, but it can be bursting with flavor. Usually featuring a fruit flavor, the dessert feels bright, refreshing. Whether herbs contrast the sweetness or it is served without complexity, it can be a lovely end to a meal or just an anytime treat.

With this recipe, the Sanpellegrino Sparkling Granita uses the Sanpellegrino Italian Sparkling Drinks as its primary flavor. It brings that zestiness to the frozen treat.

Speaking to this frozen dessert, Sara Mayer, Senior Marketing Manager, Sanpellegrino, said, “Sanpellegrino Italian Sparkling Drinks are made with real fruit juices from fruits ripened under the Mediterranean sun. This summer, we are bringing fans a new way to enjoy this citrusy beverage with Sanpellegrino Sparkling Granita. By combining these two iconic Italian treats, fans can enjoy a taste of the Italian coastline all summer long with a delicious yet simple new twist on traditional granita recipes.”

This granita recipe is just four ingredients. While Sanpellegrino offered special kits as a giveaway, anyone can recreate the idea at home. According to the brand, the method is to combine 1 cup of Sanpellegrino, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 pounds of fresh raspberries and 1 ounce of lemon juice in a blender. Once smooth, it is spread into a 9×13 pan and frozen. After about an hour, the remove from the freezer and fluff with a fork. Then, return to the freezer and repeat the process until it is fully frozen.

While this recipe is delightful, it can be customized by changing the fruit. From strawberries to blueberries and pineapple to mango, the possibilities are many. Basically, it can transform with almost any favorite fruit.

For anyone who is looking for a sophisticated frozen treat that is simple, dairy and gluten-free, the Sanpellegrino Sparkling Granita is a lovely choice. If a trip to the Amalfi Coast is not in the cards, this sweet frozen treat is a scoopful of la dolce vita.
