Universal Orlando Resort adds new Dreamworks Animation land in 2024

As guests prepare to battle in Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast and enjoy a meal at the Minion Café, more beloved animated characters will be joining the Universal Orlando Resort experience. Although the recent theme park announcement had minimal details, the new Dreamworks Animation land will be opening in 2024.

According to Universal Orlando Resort, the immersive guest experiences will include interactive play spaces and attractions. Featured characters include Shrek, Trolls, Kung Fu Panda and Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse. The idea is to offer guests a way to dive into their imaginative side.

That overreaching imaginative concept is what Universal has been gravitating towards. Whether it is the Wizarding World or new Minion area, it is more than just another roller coaster or ride popping up in an empty space. The theme park wants guests to step into an area and forget the other space beyond the creative perspective walls.

Specifically with the Dreamworks Animation land, the area will need to appeal to both young and older guests. Although another local theme park has specific themed area for the under 10 crowd, this particular space should have a wide reaching appeal. Shrek and Donkey with their witty banter appeals to young and old. Even if the interactive play space slants younger, it needs to engage the older guests who are part of the experience, too.

Although a potential opening date and more details have not been shared, many people will be counting down to the opening. Given that other family-centric attractions, like the Barney, Curious George, and other attractions have been vacated, many guests are looking for these age inclusive offerings to round out their day.

For now, it is time to head over to the Minion Café and enjoy some banana treats. Only time will tell if there is an onion inspired Shrek dish or maybe some Kung Fu Panda noodles that will be served in the future.

Universal Orlando Resort has Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay. The new Dreamworks Animation land will be located in Universal Studios.
