McDonald’s As Featured In Meal is a celebration of pop culture moments
While some people might be sad to see Grimace go, the iconic quick service restaurant is back with a new offering that will have everyone talking. The McDonald’s As Featured in Meal highlights those moments where the Big Mac, World Famous Fries, and more have flavored pop culture moments.
Movies and televisions shows are more than just moments of diversion. While the storylines might be fantastical or the plot might be twisted, the reality is that people are absorbed in that realm. It can impact their choices long after the credits roll.
Even though those feelings run deep in the Marvel Universe or the long-running series, the reality is that seeing a familiar food or product associated with a favorite character further ingrains the connection. Who hasn’t run out to buy a particular food or sipping on a drink because it was featured in a movie?
With the McDonald’s As Featured In Meal, that concept is put front and center. Available starting on August 14, the offerings will feature fan-favorite menu items which have been featured in movies, shows, and other pop culture moments.
As Morgan Flatley, Global Chief Marketing Officer and Head of New Business Ventures at McDonald’s, said, “It’s not only our real-life fans who have a go-to order… for decades our favorite movie and TV characters have, too. The As Featured In Meal is our biggest Famous Order yet, celebrating the most memorable McDonald’s references across the world of entertainment.”
The special meal will feature: 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, Quarter Pounder with Cheese or Big Mac Sandwich along with Medium World Famous Fries, a Medium soft drink and the newly-branded Sweet ‘N Sour Sauce. While this meal is substantial, many people will appreciate the references. From Steinfeld to Reality Bites, there are those lines and moments where the food takes center stage.
To bring the conversation into the current day, McDonald’s is partnering with Loki Season 2. The special menu item is a nod to the new season. In addition, the packaging will activate a VR experience.
While McDonald’s had leveraged its celebrity meals with much success, this idea is another extension of that idea. Even though many people want a “like us” moment, people are equally connected to their favorite fictional characters. Being able to bring that connection to the quick service restaurant space only fosters a bigger conversation.
Where will be the next as seen on moment? It might be even sooner than anyone anticipates.
