While the two Carolina teams might unite to support one mayo, the Duke’s Mayo Classic has a bigger story that will have people doing a double take. Tubby, the Duke Mayonnaise mascot, is giving Drake Maye a little extra condiment encouragement.

As seen on Duke Mayonnaise socials, Tubby is making a change to Drake Maye’s jersey. Will this name change help the Heisman Trophy hopeful garner more points in the standings? Only time will tell, but the stars might be aligned for Drake Mayo.

Speaking to this mayo influenced name change, Sarah DiPeppe, Duke’s Content Manager said, “A year ago, our mascot Tubby entered the world by hacking Duke’s social media feeds – so we knew he was a prankster. It felt right for a sentient jar of mayo with amazing eyebrows who loves to spread the gospel of Duke’s to pull off a stunt like this so, with Drake’s permission, we let him loose. And, we agree with Tubby, Drake Mayo has a nice ring to it.”

The Duke’s Mayo Classic is not only a celebration of college football, but a celebration of the connection that the brand has to the south and its food culture. It is more than just a condiment on a sandwich or the secret ingredient in chocolate cake. That southern favorite is a deeply rooted tradition.

For Drake Maye, he appreciates Duke’s Mayo and he grew up with the condiment in his household. While the concept might not be quite as unconventional as mayo in coffee, the connection is more than just swapping one vowel for another.

This weekend, the Maye’s UNC Tarheels will take on the USC Gamecocks in the Duke’s Mayo Classic. Regardless of the final score, one thing is clear. Duke’s Mayo will be on full display. Whether or not the winner takes a bath in it remains to be seen.
