Ubah Hassan offers a thoughtful perspective on RHONY food conversations
When Bravo added a new cast for The Real Housewives of New York City cast, many people wondered what drama would unfold with these assertive, successful women. During a recent conversation with Ubah Hassan, she shared thoughtful insight about all those food conversations. And, it is more than just wanting a more substantial cheese plate.
Anyone who has watched the Bravo show The Real Housewives of New York City appreciates that Ubah Hassan loves good food. While she might have walked into a kitchen in one episode, that willingness to assert herself in and around a table comes from being comfortable in her own being. She stands on her successes and is unafraid to back down from a challenge.
From a quick turn of a phrase that keeps people thinking to understanding how to handle herself in any situation, Ubah was quite candid when offering a response to a question about RHONY food conversations.
As Ubah said, “I think that real New Yorkers know that we love food. In New York, we meet people over food. We do not go to an office; we go for breakfast or dinner. After you go dancing, you grab some food. New York is very food central. When we are not eating, we are talking about food.”
For people who have been to New York City, they can appreciate the vast and diverse food offerings around every corner. Whether it is a sophisticated, trendy restaurant or the food truck that serves the most amazing Halal food, there is an option to indulge that craving on every corner.
Even though New Yorkers might be willing to pull out a chair at the table, seeing these beautiful, successful women talking and eating food on every show is a visual that cannot be denied. In many ways, it is a positive one.
Ubah said, “we’re eating a lot and we talk about food. When I’m looking at the show, I see women who are actually eating. I think that situation is good for young girls to see. Food is life and is never our enemy.”
“It is a celebration to actually have an appetite. It is time to celebrate your palette. Celebrate that you are in a position to enjoy food that tastes good and makes you feel good. We all love to eat and I’m in great company because nobody is cranky because they are hungry.”
In a world where people are influenced by what they see on the screen, Ubah’s words. and more importantly her actions on screen, are a good example for people. Food is and will continue to be that common connector. Maybe more Bravo shows will use those dining moments to showcase women satisfying their appetite in a meaningful way.
