Elysian Brewing Pumpkin Pack 2023 returns with more nuanced flavor

As one of the originators who celebrates the great gourd every fall, the Elysian Brewing Pumpkin Pack 2023 is back on the shelf. While the classic fall seasonal beers are present, the flavor has a few nuanced changes that might make these pumpkin forward beverages a little more drinkable.

While some people’s fall fest focuses on the Marzens and other German fest beers, Elysian Brewing has long heralded the pumpkin. Whether beer drinkers prefer its iconic Night Owl or prefer the more robust stout offerings, like Dark O’ The Moon, the variety shows how the brewers allow the spice notes to influence the pumpkin brews but not overpower it. It might sound like a magical mash, but it is just a nod to the craft that appears in every bottle.

With this year’s Elysian Brewing Pumpkin Pack 2023, the beers do not stray too far from the classic recipes. But, there is a slight variation. One item of note is that pumpkin seeds are no longer used in the beers. Even though that ingredient added a subtle flavor, it really isn’t totally necessary to the final product. Some drinkers might appreciate the difference and others might just happily sip another bottle without even a glance.

Similar to previous years, the Punkuccino is still the winner of this variety pack. This pumpkin ale with a shot of Stumptown coffee can be drunk on its own, paired with food, or incorporated into some dishes. Beyond serving it with some vanilla ice cream, consider using it in a chocolate cake recipe or even braising some short ribs with it.
