Google’s Frightgeist shows everyone is hungry for Halloween themed treats

As the fog gathers and the moon rises in the sky, the Halloween theme treats appear on the table. According to this year’s Google’s Frightgeist, everyone is hungry for some seasonal food.

Halloween is no longer just for the kids. The spooky season seems to extend almost as long as pumpkin spice season. While theme parks have touted the concept that fights can be a stress release to food brands bringing colorful, flavorful options to the table, it appears that everyone has embraced their spooky side.

For 2023, Google’s Frightgeist microsite is back. Whether people are looking for that costume inspiration or just needing some assistance with finding that favorite candy, the information is just a click away.

Recently, Google provided Foodsided some tasty findings from this year’s Frightgeist. When it comes to the top trending Halloween themed food and drinks, here is the top 10 list.

  • Halloween donuts
  • Halloween Jello shots
  • Halloween drinks alcoholic
  • Halloween punch alcoholic
  • Halloween cakes
  • Halloween ice cream
  • Halloween margarita
  • Halloween s’mores
  • Halloween Chex mix recipe

As seen by the list, the Halloween themed treats cross all ages. Whether it is party food, a family night event, or just having a seasonal treat ready, these items are all approachable. No one is stepping too far out of their comfort zone.

Looking at the list, many well-known brands have embraced these trends. Tyson released its Halloween nuggets on a larger scale. Part of the Fun Nugget line-up, this year is the first time the offering will be widely available. It might be the new favorite pre-trick or treating dinner.

Other items, like cakes, doughnuts and desserts, are obvious choices. Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ have treats that make for shareable moments. Baskin-Robbins brought back a favorite spooky cake. It seems that everyone is willing to indulge in a little spooky sweet treat.

The same concept applies to the beverage space. Even if some people prefer Sober October, the Halloween cocktail space continues to grow. Whether it is just swapping a name on a cocktail, a color changing gem, or something totally unique, people are wanting to toast to the witching hour.

As the countdown to Halloween quickens, the reality is that the fright fest is front and center in the conversation, food, beverages and everything else needs to be spectacularly spooky. After all, no one wants a spooky spell to ruin a good time.
