With vacations on the horizon and summer fun on the schedule, it is time to toast to those carefree days that are ahead. This summer, DoorDash predicts that one cocktail will take over the table and there is nothing bubbly about it.

For the past couple of summers, the Spritz has been the summer cocktail. From the Aperol Spritz to the slightly sweeter and more floral Hugo Spritz, the goblet has been overflowing with bubbly sips.

While there will be room for these vibrant beverages, DoorDash predicts that the summer of 2025 will be about marvelous margaritas. From the traditional sour cocktail to fruit forward varieties, it is time to shake up the cocktail in the glass.

According to Cristen Milliner, DoorDash’s Consumer Trends Expert, “as we head into summer, people are reaching for simple, familiar favorites that bring a sense of fun and nostalgia for a lighter time. This season is all about celebrating the classics we know and love, and the return of the margarita proves that some traditions are timeless.”

The DoorDash prediction comes from analyzing consumer purchases. Specifically, tequila is considered the fastest growing spirit in the U.S. It is more than a simple blanco that fills people’s carts. Many people are discovering the nuanced flavors of the slightly aged reposado and the more robust anejo.

The surge in margarita’s popularity is partly tied to the rise in RTDs (ready to drink cocktails). While vodka soda, hard teas, and hard lemonades have seen new brands find space on the shelf, tequila options are equally as popular. The ability to have a ready to drink margarita makes the classic cocktail even more approachable.

Additionally, the affinity for Mexican food and flavors have people thirsty for a margarita. From a pairing with a classic taco, a complex mole, or even a smothered burrito, the cocktail goes with almost anything. From a simple chicken to a spicy steak, the versatility makes it a popular choice.

This summer, the beverage of choice is the margarita. Classic, fruity, on the rocks, or frozen, the options are many but each one quenches that thirst.
