Although Europeans might prefer a different condiment, ketchup and French fries is as all-American as baseball and apple pie. Heinz believes that all potatoes, including chips, deserve to take a dip in that tangy tomato condiment. Ready for Heinz Chip Dip?
Making a condiment fun, engaging, or trending is a tough task. It is more than a fun promotion or a silly commercial for a national food holiday. People crave a way to make that familiar, constant, popular food in a new light. It can be as simple as a changing a food pairing or the shape of the serving vessel.
For example, ketchup and French fries are a classic pair, but few people dip potato chips into ketchup? If French Onion dip or other dips gets some love, why not that tomato condiment? Heinz is ready to change that.

According to Keenan White, Senior Brand Communications Manager for Heinz "Fries and ketchup have always been a beloved combination, but for some reason, the potato chip has long been overlooked, It truly makes no sense… as fried potatoes of any kind, they’re both equally deserving of being dipped in Heinz Ketchup! Chip Dip is all about embracing fans’ irrational love for ketchup and giving them a new way to enjoy it.”
To be clear, the classic Heinz Ketchup did not change. The container does have a larger mouth size that makes chip dipping more convenient.
As people take the Heinz Chip Dip Challenge, it will be interesting to see which chip works best. Does a ripple chip offer more scooping convenience? Does a kettle style chip hold up better to dipping? Is a plain chip best or how do flavored chips stand up to that flavor combination?
Since this concept is about a different size opening to a jar, could it start a new trend in the condiment aisle? Transforming a jar to be both squeeze and dip adds to the versatility. Few people will have two open jars of the same condiment. Maybe it is time to rethink packaging to open people’s minds to more serving possibilities.
The Heinz Chip Dip is available, heinzchipdip.com, online and is fulfilled via Walmart. The offer is available while supplies last.
