After receiving their Black Jackets, the chefs are one step closer to earning the ultimate Gordon Ramsay restaurant job. Unfortunately, Hell’s Kitchen Season 23 episode 13 might have started with a few jokes in the kitchen, but the ending was far from funny.
The final five chefs have been powerhouses throughout this Head Chefs only season. They have pushed through terrible dinner services and impressed in team challenges. When it is Black Jacket time, everyone must fight for their personal glory. The kitchen brigade needs to run smoothly but it is not the time for self-sacrifice.
Before their dinner service, the head chefs had to prove to Gordon Ramsay that they had a key characteristic that every great chef has. A successful head chef is also a great teacher.
For this challenge, the chefs had to teach comedians to cook Ramsay’s signature lobster ravioli with caviar prosecco beurre blanc. It is far from an easy dish to master, but the dishes were well-executed, except for one.
Unfortunately, Egypt and his partner did not finish the dish. It was missing sauce. They were flustered from the beginning.
Otherwise, everyone did well. But, there could be only one winner. Whit and Druski earned the crown. They worked together quite well.
While the challenge went well, dinner service was not as smooth. It seems that the Black Jackets had the chefs losing sync. Whether it was pressure, nerves, or just a bad night, this dinner service had one chef looking like a rookie.
The start of dinner service was slightly off. Hannah and Kyle were not in sync with the appetizer. While Kyle got the carbonara to the pass, Hannah was far behind. Sending half tables is not the Hell’s Kitchen standard.
After a bumping start, the chefs righted the path and moved onto entrees. At that point, Brandon, on the meat station, needed to be driving the tickets. Even though his home restaurant kitchen might be more quiet, Hell’s Kitchen thrives in strong vocals. He was lacking.
As garnish hit the pass and fish moved along swimmingly, the meat station struggled. The biggest surprise was when Brandon presented undercooked chicken. It was an unheard of mistake at this point in the competition.
The issues continued. From undercooked lamb to overcooked Wellingtons, Brandon had a horrible night in Hell’s Kitchen. Although these issues happen to every chef, it came at the worst time for him.
Unfortunately, no amount of great cooking throughout the season could save Brandon. Before the chefs left the kitchen, Gordon Ramsay asked for Brandon’s chef coat. That dismissal effort was too much to overlook.
With four chefs remaining, it is time for each one to run the pass in the next episode. Will the chefs catch the sabotages and earn the respect of their fellow chefs?
