From the sparkle of the holiday season to the daily grind, finding those little magical moments is key to making the day brighter. For Jennifer Love Hewitt, she shares how she brings a little extra to the days where she can use a little boost.
While the holiday season can be joyful for many, it can also be a little harder for others. When loss is mixed into the merry, those memories can come with a flood of emotions.
For Jennifer Love Hewitt, she appreciates that her family is integral to her joy. During a recent conversation, she shared how nostalgia plays a role in many of her family traditions. Specifically, she said, “believing in something magical, being present in the moment, and deeply believing in good” are all feelings related to the holiday but can apply to any day.
Having lost her mother, she understands that big moments can be tinged with sadness. When those overwhelming feelings come, she recommends letting them out. In her world, she takes that moment to herself.
She said, “truth be told, I allow myself a good shower cry. When I miss my mom, or things get too much, I know that if I go into the shower, no one can bother me. There is just a moment where I can get all the tears out and the water washes it all away. I allow myself the grace to regroup.”
While there are moments where she steps back. Jennifer Love Hewitt appreciates life’s sweet moments. She reflects on times where her mom created the most magical experiences for the holidays. As she said, and recalls in her book, Inheriting Magic: My Journey Through Grief, Joy, Celebration, and Making Every Day Magical, one year her mother made it snow in LA. That magic is what makes memories sparkle for a lifetime.
Although those grand moments are monumental, there are times when even just serving a little piece of a favorite chocolate or food can make the every day special. Ferrero Rocher might be a staple for holiday entertaining, but it can also be a way to brighten a gloomy Tuesday or celebrate a triumphant week.
Creating those traditions is important to families. Sometimes it can be the most unexpected moments or surprises that have the most meaningful impact.
In her book, Inheriting Magic: My Journey Through Grief, Joy, Celebration, and Making Every Day Magical, Jennifer Love Hewitt reflects on the relationship with her mother. When asked about the book, she said, “the book starts with my losing my mom and takes me through a journey.”
For her, losing her mother helped her to redefine her magic, for herself and her family. It is more than just the magic of the holidays or a special occasion. It is finding sparkle and joy all throughout the year.
As people resolve to make changes in their lives, the most impactful choice could be to bring more magic into their world. It does not take a wand or spell, But, it does take the willingness see the glimmer or glitter that shines even on the darkest days. Choosing to unwrap that golden, sweet gem could be the start of a satisfying story.
