Even before the hostess can finish saying, Welcome to Chili’s, another sound takes over. That rhythmic shake is unmistakably the sound of a Presidente Margarita being delivered to the table. As fans of The Office know, the fictional co-workers of the infamous Scranton based paper company loved their margaritas. Kate Flannery is ready to sip on a special margarita to celebrate a big occasion.

As many pop culture fans appreciate, Chili’s and The Office have a special connection. While the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company might have ventured to their local Chili’s for a spirited time, a real Chili’s Scranton Branch is opening for one day only.

With the doors of the Chili’s Scranton Branch opening on April 7, some people will road trip to get a taste of that infamous Awesome Blossom. For others, their ties to their office responsibilities will keep them a little closer to home. Luckily, everyone can get a sip of The Office experience at their local Chili’s.

The Scranton Marg is inspired by the popular series and has a wide-reaching flavor appeal. It is another great example how the Chili’s beverage team blends creativity with approachable flavors. Just like the Marg of the Month brings a fun twist, this specialty cocktail is a perfect excuse to go to Chili’s on April 7.

In partnership with the Scranton Branch Chili’s promotion, Kate Flannery graciously answered some questions about the campaign and her love of margaritas. Given that it is 5 o’clock somewhere, it is time to take a sip of her hot takes.

Cristine Struble: On The Office, your character was known to enjoy a cocktail, or two. What is your personal cocktail of choice? Have you ever said or done anything after having one too many cocktails that you regretted the next day?

Kate Flannery: How much time do you have? I have regrets, but I’ve learned. I’m older now, so I don’t drink as much so I don’t make as many mistakes. I don’t have as many regrets. But I will say that lately I’ve been on the margarita trail, so it’s so perfect that it manifested in the Scranton Marg.

I mean, it’s crazy. My boyfriend and I literally went on a margarita crawl last year in New York, just the two of us (we weren’t driving). We usually don’t do that, but we had a great time. So right now, margaritas are high on my list, but literally, what isn’t? My dad owned a bar, and I bartended and worked in restaurants forever. So yeah, I’m just naturally The Office party animal.

CS: Chili’s and The Office have a special margarita connection. What makes the Scranton Marg the must have cocktail? If not ordering a Scranton Marg, what is your other favorite Chili’s Margarita on the menu?

KF: I think I have to get the Scranton Marg, because I had a couple of them while filming the TV ads and photos for Chili’s Scranton Branch. I actually tasted a couple, but I couldn’t drink the whole thing or else I wouldn’t be able to work. But I had a few while I was there and they were really smooth.

I also don’t like anything that’s overly sweet, so I’m a fan of the Skinny Marg. I also like the Skinny Marg because I’m trying to watch what’s happening below.

CS: What is your favorite Chili’s menu item and/or food and beverage combination?

KF: I love to say “I want my Baby Back, Baby Back Ribs.” But I’ll be honest with you – I usually get the Shrimp Fajitas or a burger. Those are what I normally order, but if someone else orders the Baby Back Ribs, I will definitely have a bite whether they offer or not.

CS: Many of the stars of Chili’s commercials have a connection to the restaurant or are a Chili-head. Do you have that connection?

KF: I’ve toured so much in my life and when I first started touring with Second City, I remember going to Chili’s feeling like this is great. And then even when I toured with Jane Lynch, because we have a Christmas album so we tour every December, we ate at Chili’s in New Jersey for our last tour. You just know what you’re going to get. You could be in the middle of nowhere and it’s a relief to see because you know it’s going to be good. You know what you’re getting. It’s like coming home.

Ready for your first sip of the Scranton Marg? Afterall everyone knows that a Chili’s marg is always a tasty cocktail choice.
