S’mores are a quintessential summer dessert. The downside with that ooey, gooey treat is the effort. From charring the marshmallow to keeping the graham cracker intact, anything can go sideways with that bite. Thanks to McDonald’s and its Hershey’s Smores McFlurry is the must order treat of the season.
The McFlurry is McDonald’s signature dessert. Even though some people might order a milkshake with their Big Mac, the McFlurry is where McDonald’s innovates flavors. From the springtime Oreo Mint McFlurry to the classic M&M’s flavor, people love digging into the creamy soft-serve filled with mix-ins.
While the Oreo and M&M’s flavors are permanent menus items, the seasonal or limited time frozen desserts have people opting to pick up the spoon. The small window of opportunity makes it imperative that they eat it before it melts away.
Starting on June 10, McDonald’s Hershey’s S’mores McFlurry joins the menu. Available through August 11, the dessert combines classic vanilla soft with pieces of Hershey’s Milk Chocolate, graham crackers, and soft marshmallows. While not a traditionally stacked s’mores, it contains all the classic ingredients.
The key with this frozen dessert will be crafting a balanced bite. Although no one will have to worry about chocolate melting on their fingers or marshmallow spilling over the side, soft serve and graham cracker alone is not as enjoyable. This dessert is definitely an exercise in precise eating.
Additionally, it will be important for the graham crackers to stay crunchy. Texture is key to these types of desserts. A little extra crunch in every bite will be more enjoyable.
While McDonald’s used a classic s’mores as inspiration, a few flavor additions could amplify the overall eating enjoyment. Since guests can menu hack the McFlurry, ask for a dollop of the hot caramel in the order. That extra burst of sweetness would be delicious. It is like swapping out a classic Hershey’s bar for the new caramel filled flavor.
Although this s’mores flavor is here for just a limited time, people need to be vocal with their enthusiasm for offering. Even if the school bell rings in August, s’mores season does not have to fade away like summer fun. Maybe there is a possibility that this creation will linger a little longer on the menu.
