Beer lovers need to book a stay at Mexico’s oceanfront brewery

Jetting off to Mexico comes with visions of pristine beaches, calming waters, and often a margarita, paloma or other tequila cocktail. For beer lovers, a stay at Mexico’s oceanfront brewery can be the prefect excuse to enjoy that 5 O’clock somewhere vibe all vacation long.

All-inclusive restaurants are plentiful in Mexico, especially in the Riviera Maya area. From family centric options to iconic hotel brands to Mexican culture focused offerings, choosing one resort over another usually comes down to the traveler’s persona.

Although those tequila or mezcal cocktails can be refreshing, beer drinkers can prefer to sip on a lager, ale, or even an IPA. While there are some iconic Mexican lagers, those beers might be better served for long days on the water where the beer is more about cooling off from the heat than parsing the complexities from the hops.

For beer lovers, one resort has a brewery on site. Just steps away from the sand and surf, a talented brewmaster is creating hoppy West Coast IPAs, malty ales, and a beer that is well-known to people across the globe, Landshark Lager.

At the all-inclusive, adults only Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Maya, the Landshark Brewery is the only ocean front brewery in Mexico. While many people head to the Karisma Hotels and Resorts property for the Jimmy Buffet infused vacation escape, beer drinkers will find themselves grabbing a bar stool and asking the bartender for a cold one.

While there are many places where people can enjoy a cold, perfectly poured draft, it is the in-house brewmaster that makes Landshark Brewery on the Margaritaville property special. His attention to detail and creativity has beer drinkers even asking for a growler to go so that they can enjoy a pint from their balcony.

First and foremost, the classic Landshark Lager is just as people expect. Made to the exact specifications, the beer’s freshness comes through in the flavor. On those warm sunny days, the clean, crisp flavor is delightful.

For beer drinkers who prefer a little more body to their brews, the onsite brewmaster has carefully crafted a varied selection. During my time at the resort, the options on tap were a West Coast IPA, a nut ale and another IPA. Each one was delightful on its own but worked even better as a progression.

While the IPAs had that hoppiness beer drinkers expect, there was underlying flavor that rounded out those notes. Whether enjoyed on their own, with a plate of nachos or even some tacos, the beers stand up to any favorite U.S. brewery.

More importantly, the nut ale was the perfect beverage to enjoy as a nightcap. After a scrumptious dinner while the bands played, this slower sipper had a hint of caramel sweetness with that nuttiness. For anyone who likes a darker, slightly heavier beer, it was a resounding success.

Although I would happily sip any and all of these beers again, other than the Landshark Lager, they might not be on tap. The brewmaster told me that he is always looking to develop new beers and push his creativity levels.
