While Francia Raisa has delighted fans on screen, the talented actress appreciates that her cultural heritage often influences both her work choices and her food and beverage preferences. Through a recent partnership with Modelo Spiked Aguas Frescas, Raisa hopes that everyone is ready to raise a glass not only to a refreshing libation but also to the cultural significance that this launch brings.

Modelo has always embraced its connection to Hispanic heritage. From campaigns that celebrate the fighter within to highlighting artistic endeavors that align with brand’s background, the beverage company appreciates that cultural connections are just as vital as its flavorful refreshment.

To help kick off the launch of its Modelo Spike Agua Frescas, the beverage brand partnered with Francia Raisa to not only help honor the street vending community, but also showcase why that sweet, refreshing drink is a taste of nostalgia.

Recently, FoodSided spoke with Francia Raisa about her Modelo partnership and why she feels these new Spiked Aguas Frescas will be the hit of the summer.

For those unfamiliar with a traditional agua fresca, in its purest form, it is water and fruit. Meant to be simple, yet flavorful hydration, the drink is often paired with traditional street food from a vender.

When asked what an agua fresca means to her, Raisa said, “it is home for me. It represents my childhood. It is nostalgic and a staple growing up. We love our fresh fruit. Even if we all might be stuck in the early 2000s right now, that beverage reminds me of simple, greater times when I was younger.”

Although the new Modelo Spiked Agua Frescas are intended for adults to sip, that underlying taste is familiar. The alcoholic beverage captures the fresh, vibrant fruit flavors in the best possible way.

Raisa personally prefers the cucumber and lime flavor. Describing that particular flavor, she said, “it tastes like lemonade and I have a personal obsession with lemonade.” A close second favorite is the pineapple flavor.

Although everyone will have a preferred way of enjoying the Modelo Spiked Agua Frescas, Raisa recommends a little sprinkling of Tajin on the rim of the can or glass. That touch of spice enhances both the refreshing and sweet characteristics of the beverage.

In some ways, the influence of Hispanic food and culture has made people more open to exploring food, beverages, and flavors. While some people might celebrate Cinco de Mayo even if they are not from Puebla, the moment is a time to open a bigger conversation. Sipping a Modelo can be the catalyst to better understanding why those street vendors are more than just the spot to grab some fresh fruit after a hike or some chicharrónes with coleslaw as an afternoon snack.

When asked why she thinks that there is a great desire to learn and appreciate the Hispanic culture, Raisa commented. “I think that there is more interest in our food because our culture has been highlighted within the music industry. I remember being in kindergarten and bringing a video to show and tell. My classmates did not understand what was going on. It was the first time that I was embarrassed. Now the same music is being played at Coachella and people are going crazy.” The music might have set the stage for people to appreciate the beat, but the flavor from the food brings them back to the table time and again.

Even Raisa joined the food conversation with her own salsa line. Unlike the days of her youth where her lunch burrito brought embarrassment, everyone wants to have those culturally relevant flavors and foods on the table. It is a reminder to celebrate personal connection to culture and heritage. Sometimes, bringing all those tastes to the table can be the way to foster connections that otherwise might not be front and center in people’s minds.

Why not crack open some Modelo Spiked Aqua Frescas, enjoy a meal from a local street vendor, and gather some friends around the table. The stories told might not necessarily be lyrical, but they will be a memory that lingers like a great melody.

Modelo Spiked Aqua Frescas are available in four flavors, Modelo Spiked Aguas Frescas Piña (Pineapple), Modelo Spiked Aguas Frescas Flor de Jamaica (Hibiscus), Modelo Spiked Aguas Frescas Sandía (Watermelon), and Modelo Spiked Aguas Frescas Pepino y Limón (Cucumber Lime). They are sold in a 12-pack variety pack and the Piña flavor is available in a 24 oz can. Check with the beverage brand for the specific states where the malt beverages are available.
