As guests embark on a stunning Alaska cruise, Holland America Line will be offering an exclusive beer to toast to the epic adventure. Whether enjoyed while sitting on a balcony or sipped with a fresh fish dinner, this particular Pike Brewing Company brew is as captivating as the locale.

Beverage programs are critical on cruise ships. From the rise in popularity of non-alcoholic options to capturing beverage trends, guests want to have options during that memorable getaway.

Recently, cruise brands have leveraged unique offerings on board. Partnering with distillers, wineries, and breweries to offer brand, ship, or itinerary specific beverages is vital to the overall experience. Just like a plate of food flavors the memories long after disembarking, a satisfying sipper is equally as vital.

To start Alaska cruise season, Holland America Line partnered with Pike Brewing Company to offer ‘Killer Whale Pale Ale. Available exclusively onboard Alaska cruises, the specialty beer feels like an approachable option that pairs well with a wide array of food.

Created by Seattle’s oldest craft brewery, the Pale Ale has a hint of sweetness from honey and a touch of brightness from citrus and tropical fruits. Never too hoppy or sweet, its 5.5% ABV makes it a sessionable beer offering. Whether enjoyed after an excursion or with dinner, the beer is one that must be tried while on board.

With Holland America Line’s focus on its Global Fresh Fish Program and its Fresh Fish Ambassador Masaharu Morimoto, the introduction of a regional beer on board stays true to the brand’s willingness to highlight local products. It is more than just balancing food flavors with a great beer. The idea is to find the connections and spark a bigger conversation.

Served in cans on board, the label artwork has some people wishing that they could keep one for posterity. Created by Native Alaska Artist Rico Worl, a Tlingit and Athabascan community member, the can's design adds to the overall drinking experience.

Commenting on the design, Worl said, “The design on the label represents the food chain in the Pacific Northwest. The figure on the top is the killer whale depicted with its distinctive dorsal fin and sharp teeth. Below the killer whale, the seal deftly maneuvers out of the killer whale’s grasp by switching directions. Both are clever and witty creatures, and it was fun to envision the chase with multiple directions of movement as visual characteristics.”

The creative label combined with the stunning Alaskan backdrop and delicious, locally sourced fish will be a must capture moment. Those captivating images should make people want to book their own glacier adventure.

Given that Holland America Line has Glacier Guarantee on every Alaskan cruise, the travel company appreciates that the experience balanced with impeccable hospitality makes for the best cruise experience.

Holland America Line is considered a leader in Alaska cruising. More information on itineraries, experiences, and the cruise brand’s history can be found on its website.
