New Subway Wraps roll out a new flatbread bread option
While the aroma of freshly baked bread is a Subway staple, the new Subway Wraps feature a bread that will have people looking at the handheld food differently. These new menu items might be smaller sized, but they are a hearty bite.
Quick service restaurants are looking to find new ways to stand out in a crowded field. After the chicken wars ceased, how the food is served seems to be the next battle. Convenient, easy, on-the-go options are taking over menus. Instead of sitting down at the table, people want to be able to order, eat, and keep moving onto the next activity.
A wrap is a simple, classic concept that crosses food cultures. While a tortilla might surround everything from chicken and beef to eggs and vegetables, it is not the only bread that can be part of the food conversation. Subway chose to skip the tortilla for a different option, a lavish-style flatbread.
For those unfamiliar with lavish, it is usually a rectangular shaped flatbread, which is less doughy and chewy. Some people prefer lavish over a tortilla not only for its texture but also because the shape allows more ingredients to be stuffed inside.
Although some people will never stray from the classic Subway sub bread options, the quick service restaurant has never been afraid of adding new bread choices to its menu. The low carb bread option was a quite successful when it launched.
Commenting on the new Subway Wraps, Paul Fabre, Senior Vice President of Culinary and Innovation, Subway, said, “Wraps have become an afterthought on restaurant menus with uninspiring choices and snack-size portions that leave you wanting more. That insight kickstarted the process of revamping Subway’s wraps. We spent over a year creating signature recipes with unique ingredients that bring out the best in our new lavash-style flatbread, and also fuel you up without weighing you down.”
What are the new Subway Wraps options joining the menu?
Available nationwide on April 11, the new Subway Wraps are available in four choices, Homestyle Chicken Salad, Honey Mustard Chicken, Turkey, Bacon and Avocado, and Cali Caprese. On first glance, the menu items are hearty, but they are not heavy. Even though that lavash-style flatbread will be stuffed with ingredients, the protein rich wraps may feel lighter due to the combination of flavors. If these wraps contain the same amount of protein as a footlong but packed into a six-inch size, the small but mighty menu item could become some people’s new favorite order.
For example, the Cali Caprese basically packs a whole salad in a wrap. It features BelGioioso fresh mozzarella, avocado, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, Roasted Garlic Aioli and MVP Parmesan Vinaigrette. For the person who may not want to sit down and eat a salad, this option is the perfect grab and go choice. Even though this wrap is packed with veggies and protein, it feels light and balanced.
The Turkey, Bacon and Avocado feels like a sub alternative. It has all the traditional flavors but in a more convenient serving method. The flavor that sets this wrap apart is that Peppercorn Ranch sauce. It is the tangy, creamy note that ties together all the flavors.
Lastly, the Honey Mustard Chicken could be Subway’s option for people who do not necessarily want to head to a chicken-centric quick service restaurant for a wrap. It is a classic combination that will have broad appeal.
