While restaurant accolades drive diners to book a highly coveted table, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list celebrates more than just culinary excellence. As seen in this diverse group, dining greatness can be found all over the globe.
Over the years, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list has celebrated both highly recognizable names as well as emerging talent. The judging panel, comprised of industry experts and “well-traveled gourmets,” offer their insight. Topping The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list is Disfrutar. The Barcelona restaurant is run by three El Bulli alums, Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas. While the trio is rooted in culinary greatness, Disfrutar’s dining experience celebrates a touch of whimsy but never loses sight of technique. The elevated ingredients delight the palate, yet the presentation captures the playfulness.
Disfrutar was one of several Spanish restaurants to make the top 10. The second ranked restaurant, Asador Etxebarri, and fourth, Diverxo, all hail from Spain. Even though Paris and New York City both have restaurants in the top 10, Spain dominates this section of the list.
Looking at the list, it is curious that only one U.S. based restaurant is included in the top 50. Atomix, located in New York City, improved its position in the top 10. Other cities and countries have numerous locales honored. Maybe the judges need some additional opportunities to explore the delicious food across the 50 states.
Overall, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 showcases that culinary talent can be found all over the globe. 26 countries and territories were included this year. The diversity of culinary genres showcases that diners crave creativity at the table. It is the overall experience as much as it is delicious, technically superior food. This list proves that people are embracing global dining trends.
Unlike Michelin Stars that are awarded year after year, The World’s 50 Best List siphons off the number one restaurant into a Best of the Best list. The previously awarded locations, like Eleven Madison Park and Central, are not part of voting consideration.
