That iconic sizzle, pork, and yum is ready to celebrate its classic connection to Hawaiian culture and traditions in a fun way. SPAM partners with the Walt Disney Company and the new live action Lilo and Stitch film to celebrate family connections around the table. What will your Ohana be serving at the table?

Long before an adorable blue character captured everyone’s hearts, SPAM has been a mainstay in food culture. Originally  a convenient, canned product, the Hormel brand has fed families, soldiers, and people around the world since 1937.

Home cooks and celebrated chefs have transformed that simple product into delicious dishes. Whether it is the classic flavor or one of the newer varieties, people stock the pantry with cans. From a simple hash to fried rice to a multitude of other recipes, SPAM is that product which invites people to celebrate their creative and curious side.

As many people appreciate, SPAM is a staple in Hawaii. From the musubi snack of SPAM, rice, and nori to other dishes, it is part of the culture. Even Hawaiian native Auliʻi Cravalho, of Disney’s Moana, has professed her love of all things SPAM.

Now, SPAM is partnering with The Walt Disney Studios to celebrate the new live action Lilo and Stitch movie. In addition to the three Hawaiian-inspired limited edition cans, which feature artwork from the upcoming movie, the concept encourages people to open a can, create a dish, and spend some time around the table with family and friends.

As Daniel Kubiak, senior brand manager for the SPAM brand said, “Both the SPAM brand and The Walt Disney Studios have created timeless connections with families across generations, making this collaboration a natural fit. We’re excited to bring our passionate fan communities together to celebrate and enjoy quality time with their Ohana, whether watching the film or creating their favorite SPAM dish in the kitchen.”

While Disney fans will rush to get these special packages, it is more than just a collectible item. Inviting people to get into the kitchen, explore food, and discuss it is vital to the campaign. Of course, the collaboration with the movie is adorable, but the reach is far more than smiling at the shenanigans of an adorable, beloved Disney character.

At the heart of all Disney concepts is the idea of magical memories. With a great meal at the table, the stage is set for that concept. People long for connection and food can be that starting point. Whether it is a SPAM hash for a Sunday brunch or a favorite snack after a tough day at school, SPAM can be that ingredient that brings people together time and again.
