The idea of a “good for you” soda might sound a little counterintuitive. In today’s beverage landscape, more brands are finding ways to skip the sugar and focus on flavor from real ingredients. With the new Spindrift Soda, Drifters have another option to pop open when their thirst hits.

Spindrift has a loyal following. Referred to as “Drifters,” the fans are always thirsty for the newest offering. The beverage brand is proud to put real fruit ingredients into their offerings. One sip and people can taste the difference.

In the soda space, the conversation has evolved beyond the simple cola or lemon lime offering. Prebiotics, zero sugar, and other offerings fill the shelf with their better for you mantras.

No matter the can opened, one thing brings people back to purchase time and again, flavor. People want bright, clean flavors that quench their thirst. Given the crowded market, even brand loyalty can waiver if a product does not deliver on its promise.

Spindrift Soda is the newest offering from the beverage brand. Featuring five flavors, Concord Freeze, Ginger Ale, Orange Cream Float, Strawberry Shortcake, and Shirley Temple. While the names convey a sweet sip, the flavors are far from cloying.

The most successful flavor is the Ginger Ale. The real ginger spice is clear. It feels balanced, is easy to drink, and pairs with a wide variety of food options. Although it would not be the best as a mixer, it is a nice choice for alternative to another beer.

While orange cream sodas and Shirley temples are having a moment, the Spindrift options are not like the others on the shelf. They are less sweet. Drinkers need to appreciate that mindset before they pour the soda in the glass. If they are looking for heaping amounts of sugary syrup, this beverage is not for them.

These sodas are good when people have a craving for those classic drinks but want something a little more sophisticated. Even though they are labeled as sodas, they are fruit forward.

Like its other beverages, there is real fruit in the can. It is one of the reasons why it is vital to carefully turn the can upside down to displace that fruit that has settled. These beverages are not about technicolored pours. It is about finding the balance between fruit and soda.

The flavors tend to work best when paired with food. For example, the Concord Freezer with a classic PB&J works. It is equally good with some fresh berries and a dollop of cream. Finding ways to complement flavors works best with these soda.

More information on the Spindrift Sodas can be found on the brand’s website. A larger rollout will happen soon.
