With eight bakers remaining, Spring Baking Championship Season 11 episode 6 had everyone feeling the heat. From edible votive candles to a battle for dessert supremacy, another baker saw their Food Network dreams go up in smoke.
For the Pre-heat, the bakers had to transform spring scented candles into the dessert of the their choice. Additionally, they had to create an edible votive candle which would be used as a dip, spread, or sauce.
The most interesting part of this Pre-heat was that the bakers all had very different desserts. From bundt cakes to stacked pastries, the bakers showed the culinary point of view with this challenge. Even though the flavors were clear, it was an opportunity for the judges to see how the bakers approach a dessert.
On the other hand, the edible votive was a little strange. Although this concept is popular on social media, it seemed a little forced. Many of the desserts would have been just as delicious without the extra food requirement.
Overall, the bakers succeeded with this challenge. Only Mary Frances had a dessert that the judges were not happy to eat. She has difficulty keeping the acidic flavors in balance.

Even though she had to remake her thyme butter, Kari earned the Spring Baking Championship Season 11 episode 6 Pre-heat challenge win. The judges raved over her clementine bundt cake with burnt marmalade. The butter sauce enhanced the overall flavor.
For winning the Pre-heat, Kari was able to assign each baker their flavor and dessert for the Main Heat Challenge. It was a big advantage because the winning side would earn safety for their team.
The Main Heat required the bakers to transform either carrot cake or lemon meringue pie into a different dessert. In this head-to-head battle, the bakers had to balance the flavor of the classic dessert with achieving the technique involved with the required dessert. The team who had more wins would be safe from elimination.

After all the battles were judged, the outcome produced a tie. Since there would be no winning team, any baker who earned the win in the head to head battle was safe from elimination.
The winning bakers were Mary Frances, Raveena, Paul, and Corey. These desserts might not have had the best flavor of the battling pairs, but they best fit the challenge. Sometimes it pays to answer the brief best.
The bottom bakers were Julian and Priya. While the judges raved over Priya’s flavors, her dessert was not a tiramisu. It was a cake. Understanding and completing the challenge is vital to being safe.

Julian’s pate a choux was underbaked. While there were elements that were nice, the technical issue was too much to overlook. Julian was sent home. After using his immunity pass last episode, when he did not need it, he might have wished for a mulligan in this round.
