As the Wendy’s Takis Fuego Sandwich hits the menu, it is joined by an epic side. Fuego Fries give those Hot and Crispy Fries a vigorous, bold flavor shake-up.

While a new entrée can create big buzz, the complimentary side dish is just as important. After all, the combo meal is more than just value on the plate. It is a total eating experience.

When Wendy’s launched its Takis Fuego Sandwich, the quick service restaurant understood that its guests, especially the Gen Z market, wanted more than just a sandwich. As John Li, VP of Culinary Innovation at Wendy’s said during a media call, a full, bundled meal resonates with its fans. The team knew that it needed to bring the Takis flavor to its Hot and Crispy Fries.

Specifically, Li commented that Wendy’s wanted to leverage its French fries in a unique, engaging way. Instead of just another sleeve of fried potatoes, the specialty created bag allows the seasoning to infuse its flavor, and it provides an easy way to eat the food.

According to Li, the Fuego Fries took five or six iterations to get the seasoned fries just right. From the amount of seasoning to the serving method, all of the aspects were considered. The version arriving in restaurants on June 20 will impress everyone.

While many people will order the seasoned fries as part of the combo meal, they deserve their own moment to shine. Wendy’s has long celebrated fries as more than just another side dish. The Garlic Fries were a prime example.

The Fuego Fries can become a great menu hack. For example, everyone loves that Wendy’s chili. It is a signature as much as the iconic Frosty.

For a loaded fries option, order Fuego Fries and chili. Granted, it will require a bowl or plate to create this food mash-up, but the concept is totally worth it. Takis infused fries with the tangy chili is a great flavor bomb.

Also, do not pass over the idea of dipping some Fuego Fries into a Frosty. For example, the Caramel Swirl Frosty with the seasoned fries hits that perfect swicy note. Or, use a chocolate Frosty as the dip. That option offers a Mexican chocolate vibe.

Everyone might be talking about the layered flavors of the Takis Fuego Sandwich, but everyone should add an order of the Fuego Fries to the order, too. Could these seasoned fries be a new trend for the quick service restaurant that makes fresh, famous food a priority?
