Taco Bell has been looking for new and innovative menu items over the past year. From its Nacho Fries to its push toward more vegetarian options, the fast food brand doesn’t want to remain stagnant. By pushing boundaries, it keeps fans coming back for more and more.

The newest menu item, Steak Rattlesnake Fries, looks to capture people’s attention based on the name. First, rattlesnake is not an ingredient in this dish. While rattlesnake can be quite tasty, Taco Bell is probably not the right restaurant to cook this particular ingredient.

Rattlesnake refers to the bold flavor that this dish offers. These particular fries are “boldly seasoned, crispy fries topped with marinated steak, nacho cheese sauce and taken up a notch with a bite of creamy jalapeño sauce and spicy jalapeños.” This menu item will certainly strike and leave a scorching mark from the heat.

It was a smart choice to season the fries. Having the spice in layers throughout the menu item adds to the heat level. There is nothing worse than a pocket of intensity followed by a bite of bland. It makes for a less than satisfying experience.

Also, this menu item shouldn’t be overly spicy. With the nacho cheese sauce and creamy jalapeno sauce, the heat should be tamed a little. Cream based sauces often lessen the heat factor (remember milk puts out heat’s fire).

The Steak Rattlesnake Fries will appear on Taco Bell’s menu staring February 28. They will be available for a limited time.
