Taking mom out for Mother’s Day – here’s what she really wants to eat
Did you make Mother’s Day dining reservations yet? With the holiday right around the corner, did you make a reservation where she really wants to eat?
Dining out on Mother’s Day seems to be a time honored tradition. Everyone understand that mom shouldn’t have to cook, clean or otherwise lift a finger on her holiday. Restaurant reservations often fill-up quickly. Still, are families really taking mom to where she wants to eat?
In a recent Trip Advisor survey, the over 7,900 U.S. participants weighed in on the idea Mother’s Day dining experience. The results were both surprising and expected.
According to 70% of the polled participants, they believed that they knew moms preferences “extremely” or “very well.” That number is astonishing. Unfortunately, only 46% of moms agreed with that finding.
Given the discrepancy, it appears that people might not be listening to those clues that mom shares all year long. How often did mom drop a hint about that great brunch restaurant with the mimosa bar? Maybe mom is a foodie and would love to visit the Top Chef’s winner’s restaurant. While everyone understands that mom knows best, maybe people should listen to mom a little more closely.

Additionally, this Trip Advisor survey determined that moms’ top dining choice for the holiday is brunch. Given how many restaurants offer brunch specials, it could be part circumstance and part desire.
Brunch can be a great way to get a lot of variety. In many cases, a restaurant offers a smorgasbord of options on a holiday menu. From carving stations to dessert tables, brunch can be a decadent dining experience.
As for finding the perfect brunch option, it is always best to appeal to moms’ preferences. While the survey determined that moms prefer every day dining to fine dining, that scenario might not be the case for every mom. In my house, I would definitely prefer an elevated eggs Benedict over an omelet station at brunch.
Since brunch is such a popular choice for mom, Trip Advisor has compiled some top brunch spots in various cities. From Rustic Table in New York City to Yolk in Chicago, there is a brunch option for every taste and price point.
No matter what is planned for this weekend’s celebration of mom, the most important part is the thought behind the celebration. Telling mom that she is valued, appreciated and loved will make any occasion special.
What plans do you have for Mother’s Day? Can you share a tip that could help other’s make this year’s celebration the best ever?
