MasterChef Season 10 episode 15 preview: “Small Dessert, Big Problems”
MasterChef is ready to whip up another tasty dessert in this week’s second episode. In this clip, this dessert might look simple, but looks are deceiving.
After baking scrumptious cakes, the MasterChef contestants must prepare for a difficult pastry challenge. With elimination on the line, French macarons present a difficult challenge. Which home cook will have master this delicate pastry?
According to FOX, the synopsis for the episode “Small Dessert, Big Problems” states:
"The surprises continue for the MASTERCHEF contestants. Ready to take on their next elimination challenge, the home cooks walk into the MASTERCHEF kitchen to discover a beautiful tower of macarons. Special guest judge Candace Nelson, founder of Sprinkles cupcakes, sets the stage for the challenge and gives the home cooks 75 minutes to create one dozen delicious macarons. Find out who impresses and who misses the mark in the all-new “Small Dessert, Big Problems” episode of MASTERCHEF airing Thursday, Aug. 1 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX."
Macarons have become hugely popular. Even though many bakeries sell these delicious delights, an impeccable macaron is far different from just a macaron. Can these contestants create a perfect macaron?
Now, if you haven’t watched Episode 14, “Let Them Eat Cake” this is your SPOILER ALERT warning. This video clip might give away a few important details from that episode.
Now, if you didn’t watch the video, don’t worry. The rest of this post will not mention who did or did not receive immunity in Episode 14. Instead, let’s focus on what makes a great macaron.
Candace Nelson and her amazing Sprinkles cupcakes deserve all those accolades because her flavors are delicious. Whether it is a classic s’mores flavor transformed into a cupcake or innovative flavors like a cocktail inspired cupcake, each bite is scrumptious because the flavor is on point.
As the home cooks decide on a flavor profile, they should understand the delicate balance in a macaron. The filling needs to complement, yet not over power. At the same time, the flavors cannot be muted. A delicious macaron takes a deft hand.
Additionally, a macaron takes a lot of baking skill. These desserts cannot be over-whipped or over-baked.
Most likely the judges will look for a shiny shell and the perfect foot. These two characteristics make for a good macaron. If the home cooks can accomplish that technique and nail the flavor profile, they should be safe and sent to the balcony.
