MasterChef Season 10 episode 20 preview: One Pan Wonder

The MasterChef Top Eight have a challenge that any home cook should be able to handle. Will you be able to guess what’s in that pan?

One pan cooking is a home cook staple. In this MasterChef episode, the final eight must take that humble home dish idea and elevate it. With just a cast iron skillet, can one home cook prove that she is worthy of the coveted cooking title?

According to FOX, this episode synopsis for “One Pan Wonder” states:

"The home cooks are in for a real treat when talented author, TV host and new judge on MasterChef Junior Daphne Oz is tasked with revealing the contents of this week’s Mystery Box challenge to the Top Eight. The contestants then have 60 minutes to create an elevated one-pan-wonder dish using a staple kitchen tool: the cast iron pan. The trick will be to craft a dish that not only tastes delicious but also highlights the efficiency of the cast iron pan. Find out who impresses the judges in the all-new “One Pan Wonder” episode of MasterChef."

First, before talking about this episode, who is Daphne Oz replacing on MasterChef Junior? It would be quite disappointing if Christina Tosi leaves the show. She is a delight on the show and is an amazing baking inspiration.

Now, back to MasterChef Season 10. This challenge shouldn’t be overly hard for the home cooks. A one pan meal is often a home cook staple, While this challenge isn’t an Instapot meal (can we please call this small appliance a pressure cooker), home cooks often focus on convenience and cooking ease, which this type of meal offers.

Thinking about using a cast iron pan, this kitchen essential is a must for any cook. From breakfast to dinner to dessert, this pan can do it all. It is a great conductor of heat, easy to clean (please never wash a cast iron pan) and totally versatile.

The key with this challenge will be for the home cooks to create layers of flavors in the dish. Just because all the ingredients are in one pan, the dish shouldn’t be one note.

As the MasterChef season starts to reach its conclusion, it will be curious to see if this week sees another big shake-up or Subha has finally seen his last cook. Where a few home cooks have continued to improve, others are still struggling.
