McRib is back at McDonald’s for a limited time

The McRib has returned in one of its frequent guest appearances on the McDonald’s menu.

The McRib is back on the McDonald’s menu starting Monday, October 7.

This news was first reported by Delish, who say the price will be $3.69 for the familiar limited edition sandwich.

The McRib, of course, consists of a pork patty molded into the shape of a rack of ribs on an oval-shaped hoagie bun, which is slathered in barbecue sauce and topped with sliced onions and pickles.

According to the sandwich’s page on Wikipedia, was introduced in 1981 as an alternative to the Chicken McNuggets, since demand for those far outpaced the supply (can you imagine?), but was pulled from the regular McDonald’s menu in 1985, since pork is kind of a hard sell when it comes to fast food.

Ever since it’s been a familiar guest star on menus around the world, similar to the way former cast members often drop in for surprise appearances on Saturday Night Live.  (It does have a constant presence in Germany, however.)

While not everyone’s favorite sandwich, the McRib’s usual appearance is yet another reminder that fall is in full swing, along with pumpkin spice everything and football tailgating snacks galore.

As such, it has a legion of ardent fans who will find this a welcome change of pace from the typical beef and chicken options, if they aren’t feeling the plant-based burger hype that’s currently the big trend in fast food.

There’s even a handy location finder list available online, to most easily find the nearest participating store.

This should pair perfectly with the new Cinnamon Cookie Latte, and provide a nice alternative if the new Spicy BBQ Chicken Tenders prove to have too much heat.
