Skip the romance and head to a dive bar this Valentine’s Day
If romance isn’t your thing or you prefer Anti-Valentine’s Day, why not grab some friends and head to a dive bar this Valentine’s Day.
A dive bar this Valentine’s Day could be the perfect way to toast to the single life, Anti-Valentine’s Day or just enjoy a night out. When everyone else is spending huge sums of money on flowers, chocolates and other romantic gifts, a night out at a dive bar can be fun and less costly. Why not focus on the fun, not the big spending.
Recently, Yelp compromised its 100 Best Dive Bar List for Valentine’s Day, or Anti-Valentine’s Day, or just a great place to grab a drink. The list crosses the United States. From a tiki legend in Hawaii to a haunted bar in Memphis, this list could be your next foodie road trip.
This list shows that these bars aren’t necessarily a hidden dark corner that are total unknowns. These bars have some of the best cocktails, amazing ambiance and are a lot of fun to visit. Most importantly, they are not pretentious or stuff.
One aspect that ties all these dive bars together is the cost. It is about a cost-effective (aka cheap) night out. Sure, you can spend $20 on a cocktail but sometimes a $10 cocktail means that you can have two on a night out.
According to this Yelp list, Suzie Wong’s Hideaway in Honolulu was the best dive bar. Whether it is the tiki bar ambiance or all the amazing local beer, this bar epitomizes that casual, beach vibe.
The other bars are extremely varied. From old school locations newer takes on the tradition, the biggest common thread is good beer, great cocktails and a cool vibe that welcomes everyone through the door.
