Ready to grill? These flavorful twists on a classic burger are tasty.

National Hamburger Day is May 28, 2020 and it’s time to celebrate America’s best grillin’ food! From a classic hamburger to a flavorful twist, this food holiday is the perfect reason to get grilling.

There are hamburgers and then there are REALLY GOOD juicy hamburgers. You know the ones – hot off the grill, slathered with your favorite condiments and piled high with crisp lettuce, garden fresh tomatoes and killer buns.

Here’s how you can build a magnificent burger:

Begin by rubbing your burger with your favorite steak rub. After all, really good hamburger is ground up steak. Next, choose your buns. Big bold potato, sesame or buttery brioche buns. If you haven’t had a hamburger on a pretzel bun,  you are in for a treat. Pretzel buns beg for whole grain mustard, pickles and dare I suggest… sauerkraut!

Slather your buns with your favorite condiments and this is where you can really have some fun. Plain ole mayo, yellow mustard, ketchup, so passé ! Replace your mayo with Nando’s Perinaise,  mayonnaise kicked up with peppery PERi-PERi or Sir Kensington’s Everything Sauces – Chile Lime Crema, Curry Masala and Gochujang.

Have you tried the fun new Heinz Flavor Mashups? Kranch – ketchup + ranch + special blend of spices, Mayocue – Mayonnaise + Heinz classic BBQ sauce + special blend of spices.

Don’t forget the cheese! American cheese slices melt deliciously on burgers but there are lots of other options that will jazz up your burger.

Flavorful twists for National Hamburger Day!

All American: pimiento cheese and bacon. Make it southern with a dollop of Chow-Chow relish.

French Twist: Boursin herb and garlic cheese on a baguette.

Italian: Baratta cheese, marinara sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Mexican Olé: Pepper Jack cheese, salsa and guacamole.

Finish by topping  your burger with the unexpected…Love spicy? pickled jalapenos. Love onions? pickled Vadalia onions.  Feeling saucy? hot pepper sauce, barbecue sauce (try Alabama White Barbecue Sauce – mayo based with tangy mustard and horseradish ).
