Putting aside the ketchup debate, the most popular hot dog is far from traditional.

Can you guess the most popular hot dog order? Recently Grubhub released some of its ordering data ahead of National Hot Dog Day. While Chicago dog fans like their hot dog dragged through the garden and others like a hot dog smothered in chili, this particular hot dog order is definitely a new food trend.

Grubhub highlighted the top five most popular hot dog variations. While three of the five hot dogs are fairly straightforward, the most popular one is not on most menus. It seems that people are craving extreme hot dogs for the summer of 2020.

Have you had a Sonoran hot dog? This hot dog is described as a hot dog “wrapped in bacon and grilled, served on a bolillo-style hot dog bun, and topped with pinto beans, onions, tomatoes, and a variety of additional condiments, often including mayonnaise, mustard, and jalapeño salsa.”

To say that this hot dog is a big bite is an understatement. It has a lot of flavors blended together. While there is a touch of spice, the richness from the bacon and beans makes it hearty. Plus, the bolilo-style bun (a Mexican bread) helps to keep all those toppings on the hot dog.

Following the Sonoran hot dog, the other top popular variations are Coney Island hot dog, pretzel hot dog, chili cheese hot dog and Hawaiian hot dog. The first three variations are classic hot dogs. Who hasn’t enjoyed a chili cheese dog at a baseball game?

The pretzel hot dog is always a great choice. As the fluffy pretzel dough surrounds the hot dog, the bite is a tasty combination. Whether you eat it on its own or dip it in a spicy brown mustard, every bite delivers on big flavor.

Lastly, the Hawaiian hot dog seems to follow previous food trends. Earlier this year Hawaiian food saw a surge in popularity. In some ways, people looked to escape their homes via their food. Why not bring a touch of the beach to the plate.

Whether you enjoy one of the most popular hot dog orders, a classic dog or your own variation, don’t forget to enjoy a hot dog on National Hot Dog Day.
