Bring your appetite because the Rokerthon: The Great American Sandwich Relay is coming.
Fans of the Today Show and the Today Café know that Al Roker is a great cook and this year’s Rokerthon: The Great American Sandwich Relay is more than just a potential Guinness Worlds Record. It is a way to bring together chefs and fans to raise funds and awareness for Feeding America and World Central Kitchen.
Kicking off the TODAY All Day first live streaming event, this sandwich making fun begins at 8:30 a.m. In addition to Al Roker, the popular weatherman and cook will be joined by 60 famous chefs including Lidia Bastianich, Bobby Flay, Marcus Samuelsson, Martha Stewart, Molly Yeh, and Andrew Zimmern. The goal is to have 50 chefs build an original sandwich with less than a minute break in between each other. A Guinness Worlds Records judge will be watching.
Additionally, there are a few parameters to achieving this record. The sandwich must include at least two traditional or classic ingredients. Those ingredients do not include condiments. Also, the sandwich must include two slices of bread. It looks like wraps, bagels or the ever popular un-wich is off the table.
Thinking about all these chefs making sandwiches, it will be interesting to see the creative food that comes out of the kitchen. Given these chefs, there will definitely be a sandwich or two that will could be the next food trend.
The star of the event should be Al Roker’s sandwich. Since he kicks off this event, Al better bring a big flavor punch with his sandwich.
For anyone who has been to the Today Café at Universal Studios Florida, they know that Al’s special menu items are always delicious. From the first menu item (Al’s Avocado Toast) to his version of a Southern Style chicken sandwich on that buttery biscuit, these special menu items were huge hits.
Maybe everyone will be lucky to see this Al’s special sandwich become part of the Today Café seasonal menu. Are you listening Chef Steve at Universal Orlando?
While the Rokerthon: The Great American Sandwich Relay is entertaining, the fundraising associated about the event is important. As the nation continues to adapt to the current climate, organizations like Feeding America and World Central Kitchen are lifelines to people who are struggling. These organizations are and will continue to need people’s support.
