Move over Thin Mints, a new Girl Scout cookie flavor is coming.

The annual cookie tradition is getting a flavor upgrade. A new Girl Scout cookie flavor will be joining the fan favorites of Thin Mints and Samoas. Are you prepared for this new flavor sensation?

TODAY announced the newest Girl Scout Cookie flavor. It is called Toast-Yay and it is a French Toast inspired cookie. Shaped to look like toast, it has a trefoil imprint and the cookie is dipped in white icing.

The flavor is described as buttery, crunchy cookie with a cinnamon infused flavor. It is said to be not too sweet. One person described the taste as reminiscent of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

Thinking about this new cookie flavor, it seems that the food trend of comforting, classic flavors continues. As a warm, familiar flavor, cinnamon can be comforting. In today’s world of uncertainty, many people will be drawn to the classic flavor combination.

Looking at previous new Girl Scout cookies, this new flavor is different from this year’s Lemon-Ups. Those cookies were bright and the 2021 flavor is warm and spicy. It is nice to have a different twist for 2021.

Given that Girl Scout cookies are such a traditional treat, the flavors will always lean towards more familiar flavors. It is doubtful that the cookies will get a chocolate jalapeno twist or a guava cheese influenced option.

The flavors need to have a wide-reaching appeal. While the cookie sales are meant to teach business practices, a flavor that will not produce sales is not a helpful teaching tool. Everyone wants to process to be successful and the flavors (and tradition) help to set the girls up for success.

Although the annual cookie sale tradition will probably have a different approach due to the current climate, the Girl Scouts will find a way to bring all those Thin Mints, Samoas and even the new Toast-Yay cookies to everyone.
