Hardee’s limited-edition Made From Scratch Biscuit recipes are delicious.

Who doesn’t crave Hardee’s biscuits? Starting today, the popular quick service restaurant is releasing limited-edition Made From Scratch Biscuit recipes. Whether you love Southern food or just want to try some new recipes, these innovative biscuit recipes will have you running to the kitchen.

Although many people head to the drive through for a Thickburger and fries, Hardee’s biscuits make up about a 1/3 of the popular fast causal brand’s sales. There is nothing better than a hot, flakey biscuit that is made from scratch.

Since the biscuit can be transformed into all types of recipes, Hardee’s looked to its culinary team to propose some new recipe innovations. The idea is to bring highlight Southern food in a way that many people will appreciate.

Starting today, Owen Klein, VP of Global Culinary Innovation, curated several biscuit recipes that will be shared online. The recipes include Shrimp and Grits Biscuit, Nashville Hot Chicken Biscuit, Southern Style Biscuit with a tangy pimento filling and a Fried Green Tomato Biscuit. A new recipe will be released each week.

To kick off the biscuit recipes, Hardee’s shared the Hardee’s Fried Green Tomato Biscuit recipe. Here’s Chef Owen making the recipe and the whole recipe is below.

Hardee’s Fried Green Tomato Biscuit

6 Servings

  • 2-3 medium-sized, green tomatoes
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup whole buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for frying

  • 6 eggs
  • Butter, as needed for frying eggs
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • Hardee’s® Made-from-Scratch Biscuits

  • Wash and slice green tomatoes approximately 1/3-inch thick, discarding the tops and bottoms. Set aside.
  • Whisk 2 eggs and buttermilk together in a medium-size bowl. Place flour into a shallow dish. Mix cornmeal, panko breadcrumbs, salt, and black pepper into another shallow dish. Dip the tomato slices into flour to coat. Then dip the tomatoes into buttermilk and egg mixture. Dredge in breadcrumbs/cornmeal to completely coat.
  • In a medium skillet, pour oil (enough so that there is 1/2 inch of oil in the pan) and heat over medium heat. Place breaded tomato slices into the frying pan in batches of 2 or 3, depending on the size of your skillet. Do not crowd the tomatoes, they should not touch each other. When the tomatoes are golden brown, flip and fry them on the other side (2-3 minutes each side). Drain them on paper towels.
  • Heat another skillet over medium heat. Add butter and cook eggs to desired doneness.
  • Split Hardee’s Made-from-Scratch Biscuits.
  • Place 1 or 2 fried tomato slices on the bottom of each biscuit, top with cheddar cheese and prepared eggs. Close biscuit and serve immediately

It is interesting that Hardee’s choose to kick off this recipe launch with the Fried Green Tomato offering. It is the end of tomato season, which makes it timely.

Also, this recipe is a nice twist for breakfast. While many people are still obsessed with avocado toast, this tangy and hearty biscuit could be big flavor boost for the morning. The combination of eggs and fried green tomatoes is quite tasty.

Since fans will vote to determine which recipe will become part of the menu, it will be interesting to see the responses to the  recipes. While Nashville Hot Chicken will be tasty, the Southern Style Biscuit with Pimento Cheese might be the must have tailgating food. Sometimes that tangy pimento cheese just satisfies in a way unlike other food or flavors.
