Homegating – Tailgate In Your Own Backyard!
By Becky Ellis
Skip the stadium parking lot and set up the perfect homegating event.
Ready for some football? Gearing up for a big ole tailgate party? Homegating is the newest way to tailgate. 2020 may have changed the way we party, but we can still enjoy our football traditions – in our own backyard. Here’s everything you’ll need to get the pregame hoopla at home started:
Set up a tent with your favorite football team logo to protect you and your guests from the elements. Have plenty of chairs spaced with appropriate social distancing.
Start the party with Meatloaf Bombs. French’s Original Crispy Fried Onions and a yummy glaze makes these snacks super flavorful. Make them in mini muffin pans to make one-bite bombs!
Fire up your favorite grill to cook up some Texas Style Ribs. French’s mustard gives these ribs their tangy flavor.
Get (or borrow from a friend) an over-sized cooler and fill with lots of ice.
Yard games are a good idea to keep the young and young at heart busy until the game comes on TV. Who doesn’t love a romping fun game of cornhole?
TV to enjoy watching the game.
Enter a contest! Johnsonsville (the official sausage of the Southeastern Conference – SEC) is searching for SEC Homegate Pros! Watch Johnsonville’s social media channels for their bi-weekly #SECHomegateChallenge from Sept. 21 to Dec. 6. Different SEC celebrities will announce each weekly challenge for your shot at winning the grand prize of $10,000, joining Johnsonville on its 2021 SEC Tailgate Tour featuring the Big Taste Grill, and a ticket to an SEC Championship Game.
Sliders are the answer to homegating snacks. Easy for your guests (adults and youngsters) to pick up and eat. Cheeseburger sliders, Cubano Sliders (made with Hawaiian sweet rolls) or BBQ pork sliders.
Serve it up Southern Style! Serve Mini BLT Biscuits, Aunt Lola Mae’s Cornflake Fried Chicken and fudgy brownies, all made with a southern favorite – Duke’s Mayonnaise.
Cocktails and lots of cold beer. Offer your guests Smokin’ Mary Bloody Marys. Bold fresh tomato taste with a hint of smoke that gives your cocktail a fun new twist. Lots of water and non-alcoholic beverages too.
Don’t forget dessert! S’mores are the perfect ending after the big game. Make peanut butter cup s’mores for extra points and you can heat them up right on the grill.
Lots of Lysol wipes and trashcans to dispose of disposables for cleanup.
Are you ready for the big game? What fun food and frolic will you bring to homegating this year?
