McDonald’s wins the chicken sandwich wars thanks to this ingredient
While late to the game, the new McDonald’s chicken sandwich will win the chicken sandwich wars.
Coming to restaurants in February 2021, the new McDonald’s chicken sandwich looks to win the chicken sandwich wars. Although other restaurants have laid their claim to the best chicken sandwich, the fast food icon will have many people running to grab a taste. With one special ingredient, this new menu offering will quickly become the must have chicken sandwich.
Many fast food restaurants have a chicken sandwich. While 2020 will be known for many things, the chicken sandwich menu takeover was one of the biggest food stories of the year. Although everyone has a favorite, the differences between the offerings have people taking sides.
From the spicy offerings to the special sauces, there is something divisive about a favorite chicken sandwich. It is more than brand loyalty. It comes down to flavor, texture and satisfaction.
Although McDonald’s might be one of the last restaurants to jump on the chicken sandwich bandwagon, it could win the chicken sandwich wars. Similar to its approach to the plant-based food launch, McPlant, the company doesn’t do anything without careful research, planning and ensured success.
Vice President of Menu Innovation, Linda VanGosen, said, “We’ve heard our customers loud and clear, and we know they’re craving more chicken options. We’re confident all chicken fans – from traditionalists to spice enthusiasts – will discover a new menu favorite they’ll come back for time and time again.”
Looking at the three new chicken sandwich offerings, there are some aspects to a classic chicken sandwich. From the pickle to the crunchy coating, these items have become a must-have. There is even a special spicy sauce.
According to McDonald’s, their spicy chicken sandwich features a Spicy Pepper Sauce. Although this sauce is different from the very spicy sauce featured during the Spicy McNuggets launch, this sauce looks more like an aioli. The creaminess of this sauce should temper the spice.
Still, the biggest difference with the McDonald’s chicken sandwich is the use of the potato bun. As opposed to a traditional bun, the potato bun has a different texture and flavor. Generally, a potato bun is more moist, has a squishy texture and absorbs all that flavor.
While potato buns are commonly served with burgers, this offering sets the chicken sandwich apart from other menu items. Not only will it offer a nice contrast to the crispy chicken, it brings a taste of nostalgia to the bite. It is almost reminiscent of that family dinner that grandma made. Yes, a potato bun can do that.
Granted, everyone will have to wait to get their own taste of the new chicken sandwiches. The new McDonald’s chicken sandwich comes in three options, Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich and Deluxe Chicken Sandwich will be available around February 24, 2021.
What do you think of the new McDonald’s menu offerings? Do you think that they will win the chicken sandwich wars?
