Tournament of Champions Season 2 episode 5 looks to reveal the quarterfinal matches and the reality is that the outcomes can be as chaotic as the NCAA tournament. While the previous upset of Tiffani Faison taking down Amanda Freitag might not have been totally unpredictable, the reality is that each battle chef should be able to win. Earning that win comes down to solving the riddle.

According to Food Network, Tournament of Champions Season 2 episode 5, “Final Eight Revealed” features the following:

"The final two battles of round one get underway. Guy Fieri welcomes the two winners to the final eight and reveals who will compete in the first quarterfinal battle. Three chefs move one step closer to winning the championship belt, and three chefs head home to begin practicing for next year."

While many things can be said about the two remaining battles and whether or not Bryan Voltaggio deserves to beat Christian Petroni, the reality is that it isn’t necessarily an expertly prepared dish that earns the spot in the next round. The truth is that the chef who solves the riddle impresses the judges.

As seen in each randomizer spin, the combination of ingredients tend to lead the chefs down a particular path. Even when Brooke Williamson battled Nyesha Arrington, the chefs had similar approaches and almost the same dish.

Similar to the idea behind the Chopped, there is a riddle in each set of clue ingredients. The reality is that the judges are looking for whom best solves that mystery. Whether it is creative use of a kitchen tool or highlighting the ingredients multiple ways, it is all about getting closest to the right answer.

Of course, everyone will want to know if Brooke Williamson can beat Michael Voltaggio, again. The reality is that the ultimate winner might not be that important. Why not take each battle as its own game? The best competition might not come in the finale. It might have already happened.
