Although there are always cravings for favorite snacks, the reality is that sometimes the classics get a new flavor twist, and it makes that first bite even tastier.

Recently, Frito-Lay released its 2021 summer snack index. While a few of the food findings might have been expected, the reality is that people are ready to grab a bag and enjoy. From that taste of a classic to a bolder flavor option, snacking is always part of summer fun.

Much of this food trend is driven millennials and Gen X. Whether it is that new Chili Mango or Wavy Jerk Chicken, snack fans are willing to push the envelope with their favor choices.

How are shopping habits impacting summer snack trends?

While consumers are balancing classic snacks with that willingness to embrace bold flavors, where and how those snacks are purchased is changing. As many people have turned to online shopping in the past year, snack shopping needs to be convenient.

According to the Frito-Lay summer snacking trends, convenience store purchases are increasing. Whether it is consumers venturing out more or just the ease of purchase, that impulse buy is growing. Maybe that trip off the couch gets people hungry.

In addition, online shopping has changed consumers purchasing habits. From the ease of repeat orders to overall convenience, “Frito-Lay anticipates eCommerce to double by 2025 and online snack sales are up approximately 73 percent year-over-year.” Looking at those numbers, the strolling the grocery aisles might become a distant memory.

Whether this summer is filled with great adventure, a great appreciation for classic events or just an excuse to get out of the house, there is a growing appetite to keep that snack bowl full. With so many options available, there is no reason for it to be empty.
