2021 has been filled with momentous events and the Krispy Kreme Strawberry Supermoon Doughnut wraps up the third “supermoon” of 2021. While the current year has seen many changes, the reality is that this natural phenomenon deserves its moment to shine. How will this one day only doughnut mark the occasion?

According to Krispy Kreme, the Krispy Kreme Strawberry Supermoon Doughnut is meant to look like the actual strawberry supermoon. While that celestial moment might not have a particular flavor, the visual has become the tasty inspiration.

Previously, space has inspired other special, limited edition Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Who didn’t enjoy the Mars Doughnut? While it didn’t appear that an UFOs cleared the case of those special doughnuts, many people couldn’t get enough of those special treats.

According to Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme “What better way to celebrate the Strawberry Supermoon than by enjoying it with a new Krispy Kreme doughnut that looks like, well, a Strawberry Supermoon? But don’t want to wait ‘til the moon rises Thursday to get this doughnut; our Mars Doughnuts went fast!”

The Krispy Kreme Strawberry Moon doughnut features a “Strawberry Kreme, dipped in strawberries and KREME icing and topped with graham cracker moon dust.” If people fell in love with the strawberry glazed and strawberry kreme filled doughnuts this year, those guests will make a special trip as that Red Hot Light beckons.

Looking at this special flavor, the graham cracker moon dust adds the texture and the contrast to the sweetness of the strawberry kreme. A little salt mixed into the graham cracker or even a salted caramel drizzle could have made that strawberry kreme pop even more.

While no one is saying that the moon is strawberry flavored, the name strawberry moon is named for the strawberry season in the northeastern United States. Although knowing that weather fact is not a requirement for purchasing this one day only doughnut, it is a fun fact to impress your friends.

Similar to the repeat of the Supermoon three months in a row, Krispy Kreme has been offering several limited edition, fruit forward flavored doughnuts in the recent months. In addition to the strawberry, the past two months have had both Key Lime flavors and Lemonade.

While Krispy Kreme did offer those glazed flavors in 2020 as a limited edition offering, these options were bigger and better than before. Each collection was a reason to make a special visit. No one wanted to be left out and had to have those special doughnuts at least once. Although those Original Glazed will always be in fashion, sometimes a special excuse to have a doughnut means there is a reason to enjoy another dozen.
