While many people are being cost conscious food shoppers, holidays often come with a willingness to splurge. Beyond the special treat, some favorite foods often fill the shopping list, cart, grill and table. Even if the sky is bursting with fireworks, the big feast will have everyone cheering. Do these top 4th of July BBQ party foods top your must have list?

Recently, Instacart released its Summer BBQ report. While food trends can get people talking, the reality is that holidays are about food traditions. If one of those favorite foods is not on the plate, people long for it. Even if there is a new dish on the table, the meal is not complete with those traditional favorites.

Since the July holiday normally focuses on grilled foods, Instacart found that the food shopping patterns blend seasonal foods with hearty proteins.

As Instacart’s Trends Expert Laurentia Romaniuk said, “Overall, summer shopping patterns stay consistent with people opting for different cuts and types of meat to grill and fresh, seasonal produce to enjoy. The summer months come with many delicious traditions and foods that people look forward to eating all year — most notably the bounty of peak-season fruits and vegetables, including everything from juicy stone fruits and refreshing watermelon to crunchy sweet corn and lush tomatoes. Summer is undoubtedly marked by a healthy, garden-fresh, and colorful harvest that pulls us out of the colder months.”

Although everyone might love those classics, it doesn’t mean that the same recipe has to be on the table. Why not upgrade that grilled corn with a little ranch and a tortilla chip crust? Or add some tajin spice with a little cojita cheese? The fresh corn can take on a variety of flavors.

And, with the new Instacart+ program, the whole family can add to that shopping list. Whether someone prefers sweet corn to white corn or has a craving for a particular potato chip flavor, the communal shopping experience can ensure that the celebration goes on without a hitch.
