Maisel Tov Martini toasts Prime Video and Grubhub’s Tune In & Takeout series
As fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel know, Midge enjoys a nosh and a great drink. With the final season about to debut on Amazon Prime Video, the Maisel Tov Martini is the must have cocktail to toast those final few episodes.
The Marvelous Cafe is open for orders. Available only in Manhattan on April 14 and April 15 from 2:30 – 8pm ET, the 1,000 martini kits will probably go quite quickly. The specialty kit has everything needed for making two martinis that will have everyone avoiding those verklempt feelings as the countdown to the end has begun.
As Jennifer Verdick, head of partnerships and consumer events for Prime Video shared, “The Maisel Tov Martini experience is just one of the ways we are excited to expand our yearlong Grubhub collaboration. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has a history of incredible alignments, and we feel that Grubhub and Prime Video are a perfect pairing to bring this exclusive offering to life.”
The special Maisel Tov Martini is a savory spin on the classic gin martini. Created by NYC mixologist Pamela Wiznitzer, it features some of the flavor notes commonly found in a pastrami sandwich. Although there is no meat in this martini, the viscosity from the oil used in the cocktail created an unctuous mouth-feel reminiscent of the classic deli sandwich.
While this special offer is just available in Manhattan, the partnership has graciously shared the recipe so that everyone can make a Maisel Tov Martini at home.
Maisel Tov Martini Recipe Cocktail
Ingredients:
- 2.5 oz Dry Gin
- 0.5 oz Caraway infused dry vermouth*
- 2-3 droppers Pastrami oil*
- 1 olive rolled in Pastrami Rub seasoning*
Instructions:
Cocktail:
- Chill your martini glass and prepare the olive by rolling it in the pastrami spice blend.
- In a shaker, add the bottle of martini and two full droppers of pastrami oil. For a stronger flavor, add a third or fourth drop.
- Seal the shaker without ice and shake for five seconds allowing the oil to mix thoroughly with the martini.
- Open the shaker, add ice, and shake well for seven to ten seconds.
- Strain into your chilled martini glass, and top with three drops of oil.
- Garnish the martini with the spiced olive and enjoy!
Caraway Infused Dry Vermouth:
- Combine 1 tbsp caraway seeds with 8 oz dry vermouth in a glass or container and allow it to sit for at least 1 hour. Once infused, strain out the seeds with a fine strainer and store the vermouth in the refrigerator for freshness.
Pastrami Oil:
- Combine 8 oz olive oil, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 tbsp mustard seed, 1 tbsp whole coriander, 1/8 tsp chili flakes, 2 tsp light brown sugar, 1 clove cut garlic, and 1 tbsp cut onion in a pan. Warm the mixture on the stove top, but do not let it boil. Keep on low heat for an hour until aromatic, then remove from heat and chill it overnight in the refrigerator. Strain out the solids using a fine strainer and use the oil within 7 days.
Pastrami Rub Seasoning:
- Combine 1 tbsp ground pepper, 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp salt (you can add more if desired), 1 tsp light brown sugar, and 2 tsp ground coriander in a small bowl. Mix well
While this cocktail might be a little complicated, it does show that a classic cocktail can be transformed in unique or unexpected ways. Even if at home mixologists choose to use one idea from this cocktail, it could be a game changer. A flavored vermouth could be a huge flavor boost. It does not necessarily have to be this version, but the concept could be applied in other ways.
If anyone would prefer to order than stand behind the bar, the special offering is being offered for $29.99. In addition to the two martinis, it contains, “a pickle, a potato knish and a black and white cookie for a complete deli-inspired experience from the comfort of home.” More information on all the terms can be found online.
