In each episode, the talented food entrepreneurs strive to impress. During Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars ghost kitchen challenge, too many mistakes combined with lack of leadership lead to one team’s downfall. While these individuals might be a “beast” in their own business, their best efforts did not impress MrBeast and the other judges.

Over the past several years, ghost kitchens have been an integral part of the food industry. While brands like GoldBelly might bring some celebrity chefs and celebrated restaurants dishes directly to consumer’s doorstep, that food delivery may not come in time for dinner. Ghost kitchens have brought both big names and aspiring food brands straight to people’s home. Options like MrBeast, Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Kitchen, and more give consumers that taste they have longed to enjoy.

During the Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars ghost kitchen challenge, the entrepreneurs had to conceive, market, and service a ghost kitchen menu. While this concept might seem easier than the blending wines or charity fundraiser, the reality is that the challenge was a slice of a restaurant start-up. That other restaurant wars food television challenge might be daunting, but this FOX television challenge was all about the details.

While each one of these entrepreneurs might know the ins and outs of their own businesses, simple mistakes seemed to fill this challenge. No one would have guessed that a catering professional would mistakenly add a gluten-free description to a dish that had a wheat grain. There is a difference between adjective exuberance and mislabeling.

Even more surprising was the lack of details on both teams orders. From a burnt grilled cheese served to MrBeast to the lack of bacon jam on a burger, these mistakes were more obvious than a Hell’s Kitchen sabotage moment.

In addition, the other team’s bowls had an appearance of a bait and switch scenario. Who hasn’t been enticed to place that Uber Eats order only to have the food arrive and not appear as bountiful as promised. It can make a consumer think twice about that return purchase. This issue is more than just a bumpy delivery ride. Delivering on an expectation is vital for a successful business.

Although these challenges make for good FOX television watching, the concept behind the challenge is vital to the Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars competition. When the successful ghost kitchen brand seems to be overwhelmed in the moment where he should have shined, a valid concern is raised.

Like any Gordon Ramsay competition, his brand wants to be associated with the best of the best. It is as much his reputation on the line as a win for the person hoisting the crown. If that food entrepreneur cannot check all the boxes of success, they might not be the right person for that coveted investment.

What will the next challenge hold? New episodes of Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars air Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET and can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
