Over the past several Nailed It seasons, many food television fans marveled at the baking catastrophes and felt extremely better about their failed kitchen attempts. While the laughs were plentiful, there was one thing missing from the show. Could any of these passionate want to be bakers go from disaster to master? On The Big Nailed It Baking Challenge, the contestants are given an opportunity to turn those fails upside down.

Looking to impress favorite judges Nicole Byer and Jacques Torres are 10 want to be bakers that are excited to rise to the occasion. Over various challenges, the bakers will attempt relatively simple bakes while building to the ultimate sugary masterpiece. From the art of chocolate to antigravity bakes, these creations might not necessarily win the blue ribbon, but they won’t be the last item remaining at the school bake sale.

Helping these measure their way to success are two world-renowned pastry chefs, Erin Jeanne McDowell and Robert Lucas. Erin has authored several cookbooks and is the host of Bake It Up a Notch on Food52. Robert, aka The Sweet Impact, is a self-taught baker who delights fans on social media with his one-of-a-kind creations.

Looking at the clip, some people might feel that the concept is like a baking Worst Cooks. It appears that the first couple of challenges are all about the fails. Whether it was someone who might have swapped salt for sugar or forgot a leavening agent, the reality is that the “oh nos” are almost more entertaining than the perfect recreation.

Still, it appears that some of these aspiring bakers are making copious notes, learning, and applying those skills. As seen in other baking shows, making anti-gravity cake is hard. If one of these contestants can even come close, it is a huge accomplishment.

For anyone who wants to watch light-hearted, sweet food television, The Big Nailed It Baking Challenge on Netflix will deliver those moments. It might not inspire people to pull out that stand mixer, but it will bring laughter to the day.
